Background of Project
● In Colombia there is very little (or no) financial help from the
government to help their own elderly people.
● Due to war, neglect, poverty and disease, families may find themselves
living in homes with up 5 other people.
● Unfortunately more elderly people being abandoned and left to fend for
themselves on the streets of Bogota and suffering from certain illnesses
such as dementia and pneumonia.
● Colombia has the most Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the
world, and the elderly are among the most vulnerable and affected.
● Older people who have been displaced in Colombia's long-running civil
war are among the most vulnerable, yet they often remain invisible in
the humanitarian response provided by government and non-
government agencies.
Introduction
● Volunteers on the Elderly Care project, work in care centres for the elderly. In these centres,
the elderly receive love, food, shelter, personal care and medication. With the help of
volunteers, assisting with daily activities like entertainment, reading, writing, drawing,
assisting cooking and feeding, the local staff can increase the number of people they look
after, providing them with the right care to carry on living in a more dignified environment.
● Volunteers from every age and background can join to help their causes and to empower
local projects. There are not intermediaries.
● There are also volunteer feedback on their official website, so that people can confirm the
authenticity and effectiveness of the activities.
