Readiness for Changes
Mindset blocks creativity

Mindset is a condition in which an individual becomes over-

sensitized to some part of the information available at the
expense of other parts.

It is characterized by one-right-answer thinking, looking for

reasons why something will not work, and misplaced emphasis
on logical thinking.
Readiness for Changes
Mindset:

We have always done it this way - why change?

There can only be one way to do it properly.
It’s experience that counts - it’s the only way to learn.
I learned to do it this way and it never lets me down.
Televisions are for receiving information – not for two way
communication
Deal with an Individual’s Block to Creativity

Jones (1987) identified 4 typologies of blocks;

•Strategic blocks– one right answer approach, inflexible
thinking. They include the tendency to rely heavily on past
experience or particular techniques without any challenges.

•Value blocks– over generalised, rigid personal values. These

occurs when personal belief and value restricted the range of
ideas.
Deal with an Individual’s Block to Creativity

• Perceptual blocks – over narrow focus of attention and

interest. There arise from lack of sensory awareness at a
physical level therefore contribute to lack of awareness of
implications of situation

• Self-image blocks – poor effectiveness through fear of

failure, timidly in expressing ideas etc. These reduce
effectiveness in advancing ideas. They arise from a lack of
self confidence in the value of one’s own ideas
