3.3 Pie Diagram
• It is drawn to represent the total value of the given
element using a circle.
• Also called - Divided Circle Diagram.
– While dividing the circle into corresponding degrees of
angle then represent the sub– sets of the data.
• The angle of each variable is calculated using the
following formulae:
Value of one component
Total Value of all the component
X 360
Working procedure
• The surface area of a circle covers 360 Degree
or 2μ radius.
• Plot a circle, the angle of circle totals 360 ͦ .
• Convert the given values of component in
percentage of the total value.
• Change the various component values
correspondence to the degree of on the circle.
Working procedure
• Since 100 % is represented by 360 angle
the centre of the circle,
– Therefore 1 % value is represented by
360 /100 = 3.6 º
– If 5% of certain component, the angle which
represent the percentage of that value is
3.6 º x 5 = 15 º in circle.
Value of one component
Total Value of all the component X 360
Working procedure
• Exercise : Marks obtained in test by a
bioscience students are as follows
Zoology Botany Chemistry
65 60 55
Represent the data in pie chart diagram.
Working procedure
• Solution
– Total Number of component is 65+60+55 = 180
Subject Marks Angle to be plotted in circle

Zoology 65 65/180 x 360 = 130º
Botany 60 60/180 x 360 = 120º
chemistry 55 55/180 x 360 = 110º
A Pie chart has an appearance like this

3.4 Pictogram
• It is a popular method of representing
statistical data in picture.
– A number of pictures of equal size and
definite numerical values are drawn.
– Each pictures represents a number of units.
– Pictures are draw side horizontal or vertical.
3.4 Pictogram
• Exercise :
– Represent the following data of the production
of books from a publication.
Year 2006 2007 2008
Production of 1000 2000 3000

Graphical Presentation of Group Data
Following graphs are used to group data
presentation
1. Histogram
2. Frequency Polygon
3. Cumulative frequency curve (Ogive)
