SINGULAR AND PLURAL NOUNS,
BUT WHAT IS SINGULAR AND WHAT IS PLURAL?

 Singular is one!

 Plural is many!
THE RULES
 Rule 1: To make a singular word plural, in most
cases “S” is added to the end of the word.

 In the next slides we are going to show you how.


LION

 Lions
MONKEY
 Monkeys
ELEPHANT
 Elephants
PANDA
 Pandas

 Rule 2: If the singular form of the word ends with
“s, ss, x, zz, ch or sh” then add “ES” to the end of
the word!

FOX

 Rule 3: For words (nouns) ending in f or fe, we
have to change f to v and add “ES”

 Rule 4: A few words (nouns) are very strange and
have the same singular and plural forms.

 Some nouns have different plural forms:

 child – children
 woman – women
 man – men
 mouse – mice

 Nouns ending in vowels like y or o are very confusing:

 baby – babies
 toy – toys
 potato – potatoes
 stereo – stereos
