– 4,000 words (+/- 5%) excluding cover page, references and
appendices
• Group size:
– 3-5 students (ideally, 4 members) in a group
• Submission deadline:
– Friday, Week 11
Assessment 2 - Submission
• Submission files:
– Written report in Word format
– Presentation slides in PowerPoint format
• Submission:
– Only one member of the group is to upload
the assignment files.
– Check Turnitin ratio well in advance to make
changes, if necessary, to reduce Turnitin ratio.
Assessment 2 - Purpose
• The primary purpose of this assignment:
– Help you develop and demonstrate your skills in the use
of project management concepts, principles, theories
and arguments during project management execution
and closing phases.
– Demonstrate your understanding of the real application
of control systems.
– Analyse and argue what type of control systems will
enable better project outcomes.
Assessment 2 - Scope
• A real-life case study (project) that exceeded the
allocated budget and failed to meet the deadline
has been provided.
• Plenty of publicly available online resources have
been provided about the case study in the form
of URLs but you are not limited to these
resources.
• You are required to do your own research to
respond to the assessment tasks.

• Based on your research,
– Analyse the project context, issues and control systems
applied during the execution phase.
– Find out the causes of its failures and analyse the
control systems applied.
– Critically evaluate the effectiveness of applied control
systems and stakeholder’s management.
– Make recommendations for how its failure could have
been avoided.
– Provide key lessons learned and recommendations for
future projects.
Part A - Critical Analysis Report
• Executive summary of the project
• Introduction to the project including major issues it
encountered
• Control Systems applied to control scope, cost, schedule,
risks, etc.
• Analysis of the possible reasons for cost and schedule
overruns and/or other issues.
• Analysis of the relationship between the problems you
identified in cost and/or time overruns and the
stakeholders’ needs and influence.

• Analysis of the project management actions that could
have been taken to better control the project and
stakeholders in order to increase the chance for
successful delivery of the project.
• Conclusion which identifies the key lessons that project
management can learn from the experience of the
project.
• Self-reflection by each group member for their
contribution to the group assignment while
researching, collecting, and analysing the data, and
compiling the critical analysis report
Part B - Presentation
• Presentation is worth 10% of the unit marks.
