STATISTICAL TOOLS

USED IN QUANTITATIVE
RESEARCH DESIGN
WHAT IS YOUR UNDERSTANDING ABOUT STATISTICS?

STATISTICS is a branch of mathematics that deals with collecting,

analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data.

STATISTICS helps in gathering information, understanding

patterns, and making inferences about the word around us.

DATA refers to any facts or figures that are collated

with the intention of being presented, interpreted, and
analyzed.
DATA MAY BE:
SATISTICAL ANALYSIS is a
specific method for analyzing quantitative
research data. In statistics, it is important to
find the mean, median, and mode.

DATA refers to any facts or figures that are collated

with the intention of being presented, interpreted, and

TYPES OF STATISTICAL TOOLS:

1 DESCRIPTIVE used to describe basic features of the data

in a study and provide simple summaries about the
sample and the measures.

 Mean, Median, Mode

2 SIGNIFICANT TESTING tells us how confident we can be

that the surveys sample population accurately displays the
views of the entire population.

 ANOVA, T-test
TYPES OF STATISTICAL TOOLS:

1 CORRELATION identify variables that have some sort of

relationship to the extent that a change in other.

 Pearson-r, Spearman Rho

2 REGRESSION determines the statistical relationship

between a dependent variable and one more independent
variables

 Linear Regression, Logistic Regression

TOOLS UNDER DESCRIPTIVE:
TOOLS UNDER SIGNIFICANT TESTING :
T-TEST is used when you have two groups or two sets of data and you
wish to compare the mean on some continues variable.

ONE WAY OF ANOVA: REPEATED MEASURES AND BETWEEN

GROUPS

1. Determine if there is significant deference

between the level of academic performance
when analyzed according to sections.
2. Determine if there is significant deference
between the LET performance of BSED
students when analyzed according to subjects.
TOOLS UNDER SIGNIFICANT TESTING :

ANOVA is used when you have two or more groups and if you wish
to compare their mean scores on a continues variable.

Paired Sample Independent Sample

Comparing Pre-test Scores and Comparing Scores of Male and
Post test Scores Female
1. Determine if there is significant deference between
the weight before and after the exercise.
2. Determine if there is significant deference between
the level of preparation on election between set A and
set B.
TOOLS UNDER CORRELATION:
Pearson - R Spearman Rho
Designed for interval level Designed for used with ordinal
continues variables, e.g. scores level or ranked data, and useful
on a measures of self -esteem, when data doesn’t meet the
sex, etc. criteria of Pearson correlation.

1. Determine the significant relationship

between the level of digital skills and
readiness towards integration of technology.
2. Determine the significant relationship
between persons average hours worked per
week and income.
TOOLS UNDER CORRELATION:
Linear Regression Logistic Regression
Used to explore the relationship Allows to test models to predict
between one continues categorical outcomes with two
dependent variable and a or more categories.
number of independent
variables or predictors.
1. Determine if the level of digital skills
significantly influence readiness towards
integration of technology.
2. Determine if which indicators significantly
influence the LET result
