Drilling Scope & Methodology

A series of probing’s was performed along the Jet
Grout Cutoff Wall alignment adjacent to the
structure’s footing. Enough probing were
performed so that the edge of the structure’s
footing can be identified within a tolerance of 6-
inches.

Scope of Work
Drilling Scope & Methodology
Remove the existing two-barrel, 10-foot diameter corrugated metal culverts and
replace them with three 7-foot by 7-foot concrete box culverts with slide/flap
combination gates and manatee barriers on each structure. A cutoff wall will be
installed for seepage management within the excavated area, under and adjacent
to the box culverts. Lakeside and landside access ramps will also be provided
down to the culverts after the levee cross-section is restored. Exploratory

COW AREA # 3
CSM Cutter Head Stuck:
During the installation of Panel P3969844.On July 15, 2020, the machine could not be raised above an
approximate depth of 40ft (elevation -5ft). Several attempts were made to lower and raise the
equipment, but every attempt resulted in the equipment snagging at the same elevation. It was
determined additional measures were necessary to free the Kelly bar. After several attempts to drill
around with the CFA through to July 18, 2020, there was no improvement. It was decided to suspend
efforts and formulate a recovery plan.

The successful removal of the cutter head was performed on August 19, 2020. Throughout the time
leading up to the recovery, the bentonite level in the excavation was monitored and maintained. During
the removal operation, the bentonite level was maintained, and observations were made to the work
platform.

Four support panels for the BG30 were

installed to an approximate depth of 10ft,
north of the Kelly bar location. These panels
were installed on August 13, 2020.

COW AREA # 3
Based on the sequencing and configuration of the CFA “pre-drills” the excavation is up to
about 10.5 feet wide (perpendicular to the levee alignment) and extends about 17 feet
along the levee alignment (Figure below).

Remediation Panels
The following main points outline the proposed installation of the remediation panels.

1. Mix design designated MD TO3-260 will be used to install the remediation panels.
2. Because of the varying depths of the recovery panels, Bauer propose to install the
remediation panels to a maximum depth of 64ft, if conditions permit.
3. Wet grab samples will be taken from one primary and one secondary panel.
4. Bauer anticipates these remediation panels will meet or exceed the specification for the
COW. Bauer will monitor UCS results and if they prove favorable; use the panels as part of
the final wall.
5. If results are not favorable, Bauer proposes to use the pre-approved mix design
TO3 – 350.R (refer to Appendix D) to install panels to complete the original alignment
of the wall.
