Climate change
What is climate change

• Climate change is an increasingly pressing issue in today's world.

As the global temperature rises, the effects of climate change on the
environment, people, and animals are becoming more and more
evident.
Causes of Climate Change

Human Activities:

• Burning fossil fuels - When fossil fuels are burned, they release large amounts of carbon dioxide, a
greenhouse gas. Greenhouse gases trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming.

• Deforestation - Deforestation is an important factor in global climate change. Climate change is because of a
build up of carbon dioxide in out atmosphere and if we carry on cutting down the main tool we have to diminish
this CO2 build up, we can expect the climate of our planet to change dramatically over the next decades.

• Urbanization - Secondly, the rapidly increasing urban populations are forced to use more and more marginal
land, thereby augmenting the potential impacts of climate change, including sea-level rise, and the possible
increase in severe weather events and flooding.
Causes of climate change

Natural process

• Variations in the Earth's orbit - Changes in the Earth's orbit around the sun and changes in the tilt and
wobble of the Earth's axis can lead to cooling or warming of the Earth's climate because they change the amount
of energy our planet receives from the sun.

• Solar activity - a warming of the planet due to an increase in solar irradiance probably results in the release
of methane and carbon dioxide from stores in the oceans and icecaps, and these greenhouse gases can then
produce additional warming.

• Volcanic eruptions - Injected ash falls rapidly from the stratosphere most of it is removed within several
days to weeks and has little impact on climate change. But volcanic gases like sulfur dioxide can cause global
cooling, while volcanic carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, has the potential to promote global warming.
Effects of Climate Change
• Warmer temperatures -
• Rising sea levels
• Melting glaciers
• Changes in precipitation patterns
• Increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events
• Disruption of ecosystems
Ways to Reduce Climate Change
• Reduce energy consumption - Reducing your energy usage reduces the demand for fossil fuels and, in turn,
lower the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Climate change results in heat waves, drought, higher sea level,
abnormal weather patterns and a greater likelihood of natural disasters.

• Plant trees and other vegetation - As trees grow, they help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide
from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. Trees provide many
benefits to us, every day. They offer cooling shade, block cold winter winds, attract birds and wildlife, purify our air,
prevent soil erosion, clean our water, and add grace and beauty to our homes and communities.

• Use renewable energy sources - In any discussion about climate change, renewable energy usually tops the list
of changes the world can implement to stave off the worst effects of rising temperatures. That's because renewable
energy sources such as solar and wind don't emit carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that contribute to global
warming.
Conclusion
• Climate change is a pressing issue that we must confront. By understanding the causes
and effects of climate change, as well as ways that we can reduce its impact, we can help
to make a positive difference in the fight against this global issue.
