1.1 WHAT IS STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME
(SLO)?

 this refers to the skills, competencies and


values that the students are expected to
demonstrate at the end of every
course/subject.
WHERE DOES THE SLO
CAME FROM?
 every college program have a set of college-
wide expectations from student learning
which have been previously agreed upon by
the faculty of the program.
IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDENT
LEARNING OUTCOMES.

Students will have a definite guide during the


learning activity.

Teachers will be in the best position to align their


instructional activities to the desired learning
outcomes.
WHEN DO WE HAVE TO EVALUATE THE
ATTAINABILITY OF THE SLO?

It should be periodically


evaluated by both the students
and the teachers.
1.2 WHAT ARE THE SOURCES OF EXPECTED
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (SLO)?
1) Institution’s Mission Statement.
2) Policies Competencies and Standard.
3) Expected competencies identified by the different
profession, business and industry.
4) The thrust and development goals of the National
government.
5) International trends and development.
6) It will be enriching if the identified competencies and
expectations of students integrate the basic general education
competencies such as the following competencies listed by the
Montgomery College:

a) Oral and written communication


b) Scientific and quantitative reasoning ability
c) Ability to analyze synthesize and develop creative solutions
d) Technological competency
e) Information literacy
1.3 CHARACTERISTICS OF GOOD LEARNING
OUTCOMES.
1. Good student learning outcomes (SLO) are centered on the students, on
what the learners are capable of doing, instead of the teaching
technique.
2. Good learning outcomes are based on the program mission statement
agreed upon by the program faculty in consultation with other
stakeholders like alumni and other professionals.
3. Good student learning outcomes are very well understood by both
students and faculty.
4. Good learning outcomes include a spectrum of
thinking skills from simple to the higher order of
application of knowledge and skills.

5. Good learning outcomes are measurable, timely and


flexible.

ME OUT!
MECHANICS:
• THE CLASS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO 2 GROUPS. AND EACH GROUP WILL
BE GIVEN A TASK TO ACT OUT THE CHOSEN PERFOMANCE.

• GROUP 1 WILL PERFORM THE BAD OUTCOME OF NOT USING THE


LEARNING OUTCOMES EFFECTIVELY IN A CLASSROOM SETTING.
• GROUP 2 WILL PERFORM THE GOOD OUTCOME OF USING THE
LEARNING OUTCOMES EFFECTIVELY IN A CLASSROOM SETTING.

COOPERATION – 10 POINTS
CONTENT – 20 POINTS
CREATIVITY – 10 POINTS
TOTAL – 50 POINTS
