Discussion of Literary Texts 6
"The Steadfast Tin Soldier" tells the tale of a one-legged tin
soldier who, along with his identical companions, is placed on a
table as a birthday gift for a boy. Despite his physical difference,
the soldier stands proudly and becomes enamored with a paper
ballerina in a cardboard castle. The soldier's adventure begins
when he falls from the window, faces numerous challenges,
including a perilous journey through the sewers, and ends up in
the belly of a fish. Eventually, he returns to the same room,
reunited with the ballerina, but their happiness is short-lived as
the soldier is thrown into a stove, melting alongside the paper
dancer. The story conveys themes of steadfastness, love, and
sacrifice, ultimately ending with the tin soldier transformed into a
tin heart, while the dancer's spangle remains as the only trace of
her existence."
