The Outfit and Crew Leadership
 MEMBERSHIP IN SMALL GROUPS

• Within a Senior Scout Outfit, the Scouts are

organized into groups of six (6) or eight (8) boys
each called Crew. The Crew chooses a Crew Name
and identifies itself with a symbol. Usually, the
names are taken from names of Tribes, Hobbies,
Interests, Heroes, etc.

• The chosen name is supposed to symbolizes the

qualities, or the values of the Crew. The members
elect their Crew Leader from among themselves
and become their representative to the Outfit
Advisors Council.
 HOW THE CREW SYSTEM OPERATES

Why eight? There can be fewer, but here are a number of

the reasons for eight.

• It takes eight Scouts to handle the details involved in running a

Crew in the most effective manner.

• It takes eight Scouts to make up full-fledged teams for Scout

Craft games and competitions in the Outfit and for effective
Scout skill training and advancement in the Crew.

• It takes a full Crew of eight to present a real challenge to an

older, more experienced Scout to make him eager to go on
giving his very best as a Crew leader.
 HOW THE CREW SYSTEM OPERATES

Eight Steps that a Crew must follow to become a

Good and productive Crew
• Crew Features/Spirit
• Crew Membership
• Crew Meeting
• Hikes, Outdoor Activities and Other Events
• Senior Scout Advancement
• Good Turn or Service to Others
• Uniform
• Crew Leaders’ Council
 CREW FEATURES
• Pride in the Crew and its achievement is what
makes the Crew Spirit. It is what urges the Crew
onwards to more and greater achievement. It is
what motivates all the Crew members to keep on
advancing, and achieving, and serving GOD,
Country, and other people with excellence.

• There are many ways to develop Crew features and

Crew Spirit. Everything will depend on the Outfit
Leaders creativity and innovativeness.
 CREW FEATURES
• Let the members of the Crew develop these features. Use
these whenever the opportunity arises. Let the Crew
Leaders give unique reports during meetings and when
attending formations and activities.

• Avoid the military way of reporting as ‘Trail Blazer’s Crew,

all present, Sir.’ Rather, encourage them to report thus
‘The handsome members of the Trail Blazer’s Crew are
all present and ever ready to serve, Sir.’ This type of
reporting will surely raise everybody’s adrenalin. Let them
sing their Crew Song and shout their Crew Yell when they
arrive at the assembly area during Outfit formation or
after they have accomplished an activity or project.
 CREW FEATURES
There are certain Crew features in which the
members take pride of. These features are:

 MEMBERSHIP IN SMALL GROUPS
• The CREW LEADER leads the membership in this small group. He is
elected from among the members of the Crew. He is also responsible in
carrying out all activities of the Crew while participating in the
Outfit’s activity, most especially in accomplishing the Senior Scout
advancement program.

• The ASSISTANT CREW LEADER, which can either be elected or

appointed by the members of the Crew or the incumbent Crew Leader.
He takes over the Crew leadership whenever the Crew Leader is not
available. It is also expected from him to support his Crew Leader in
any Crew projects and activities.

• The CREW SCRIBE. He keeps the record of all the Scouting activities
participated by their Crew. His record must include achievements,
advancements, dues, lectures, assignments and minutes of Crew &
Outfit meetings.
 MEMBERSHIP IN SMALL GROUPS
• CREW TREASURER. He serves as custodian of Crew funds.
He also assists and or assumes the post of the Crew
Scribe whenever he is not available.

• CREW QUARTERMASTER. His main task is to ensure the

proper care and use of all the Crew supplies and
equipment. He also maintains cleanliness of their
respective Crew quarter/corner.

• CREW CHEER LEADER is the sixth boy member. He leads

the Crew in songs and yells during meetings, inter-Crew
competitions and other Scouting activities. He teaches
new songs and yells to keep Crew members cheerful,
happy and boost Scouting Spirit and Crew morale.
 MEMBERSHIP IN SMALL GROUPS
• The CREW HIKE LEADER is the seventh boy
member, which leads the Crew in planning and in
during hikes, camps and other outdoor
activities. The Crew Leader will just assist and
help the Crew Hike Leader in giving directions
and identifying other trail signs.

• The CREW GRUB MASTER is the last boy member

of the Crew. His task is to ensure safe and
nutritious food requirements of the Crew during
its outdoor activities.
 CREW FEATURES
Features that develop Pride in the Crew
• Crew Name - This represents the characteristics, the values and the standard
of the Crew
• Crew Flag - this should be symbolic of everything that the Crew stands for.
• Crew Totem - this is represented of the Crew name and is placed on the top
of the pole of the Crew flag.
• Crew Song - this is the anthem of the Crew
• Crew Yell - a shout that identifies the Crew and ignites the excitement of all
its members
• Crew Call - an oral coded call to identify its members.
• Crew Signature - a secret signature known only to the members.
• Crew Medallion - a medallion used y the Crew members and is
representative of the Crew.
• Crew Corner - a place where the Crew places and puts on display their
projects an their achievement awards
• Crew Code - a statement of beliefs and values, which sets the standards of
behavior of all Crew members.
 OUTFIT LEADERS COUNCIL
• The Council is composed of the Senior
Crew Leader serves as chairman the Outfit
Secretary, Outfit Treasurer, Outfit
Quartermaster, the Crew Leader and
Assistant Crew Leader in the absence of
Crew Leader.

• The Outfit Advisor will serve as technical

Adviser and has no voting power.
 THE OUTFIT PROGRAM COMMITTEES
Senior Scout Outfit plans and implements their own activities and projects.
This responsibility is placed on four 4 committees who gather information
and ideas, recommend plan, and implement the activities and projects of
the Outfit.

• The OUTDOOR COMMITTEE- takes care of encampments, wilderness

expeditions, long cruises, hiking adventures with plenty of high adventure.

• The VOCATIONAL COMMITTEE- takes care of hobbies and crafts, vocational

explorations of business, professions, and trades, conferences, workshops on
different crafts and professions.

• The SOCIAL COMMITTEE- takes care of social gatherings, mixed and stag,
informal or formal.

• The SERVICE COMMITTEE- takes care of service oriented activities projects

directed towards the Sponsoring Institution, the church, the community, and the
society.

 CREW MEETINGS
The Crew meetings provide you and your scouts with
the perfect arrangement for committee work, the
practice of Scout Craft skills, and competition.
Dividing the Crew into buddy teams helps to get
your Crew moving.

These meeting consist of the following:

– Committee Work
– Games
– Competitions
 SCOUT UNIFORM
Proper wearing of the Senior Scout uniform is a
mark of a good Crew. The uniform is designed
for standard and consistent image of a Scout
and looks good too. Encourage the Scouts of
your Outfit in the proper wearing of the uniform
by wearing your uniform properly.
 SENIOR SCOUT ADVANCEMENT
Every Senior Scout should aim toward becoming an EAGLE
SCOUT Rank. Advancement is the natural outcome of
Scout’s active participation in various level of activities,
but the most important ingredient in Scouts’
Advancement is the activities undertaken during Unit
and Sub-Unit Meetings aside from Council, Regional and
National Scouting Events.
