HANSEL AND GRETEL
The notorious tale of Hansel and Gretel has been renowned
since the Brothers Grimm first published the German lore in
1812. It starts off with the extremely child-friendly introduction
of Hansel and his sister Gretel, whose starving parents decide to
abandon them in the forest. It contains a villain who's creepy
and insidious — a seemingly kindly old woman who lives in the
woods in an edible gingerbread and candy house, which she
uses to ensnare children so that she can kill, cook and eat
them.
In the Brothers Grimm 1812 version, she decides that Hansel would be the more
succulent child, and locks him up in a cage to fatten him, while starving his sister
Gretel. When the witch tries to eat Hansel, Gretel saves him by shoving the witch
into the oven. The pair escape and manage to find their way home with the witch’s
treasure. In the meantime, their stepmother has died and their father is a broken
man having abandoned his beloved children. The family lives happily ever after. So
yeah, not counting the multiple accounts of cannibalism, child abandonment,
enslavement and murder, it’s a relatively child friendly story.
SUN,
MOON
AND
TALIA Gimbattista Basile's 1634 story "The Sun, the Moon
and Talia”, a king finds the body of a woman lying
in a bed chamber, nude and comatose, and can’t
resist the urge to have sexual intercourse with her.
She becomes pregnant and has twin children, all
while remaining asleep.
But her infant bites upon his mother's finger, mistaking it for a breast,
causing the flax chip from the spindle to fall out and the young lady to
awaken.

When his queen finds out, she tries mutilating them, eating them and
burning them alive. Alas her husband did not quite approve of this plan
and threw her into the fireplace to protect Talia and her twin sons.
