Energy resources

Muhammad Daniyal 9B
What is renewable and
non-renewable?
Renewable energy resources are which can be
produced repeatedly in a short time and will not run
out. Such as hydroelectric energy, geothermal
energy.
Non-renewable energy resources are which are not
able to be produced in a short time. These resources
are produced in a long time which we can not use.
Such as coal, oil, nuclear energy, fossil fuels.
Biofuels
Biofuels are energy resources which are being
produced by plants. They are the best alternative to
fossil fuels because fossil fuels create greenhouse
emissions, but biofuels do not produce greenhouse
emissions. Biofuels are not only produced by
plants they are also produced by animal waste, and
biomass. Wood is a biofuel so if you burn wood
down it would be able to produce heat. This heat
could be used in power plants.

Geothermal resources
Geothermal energy is stored under the earth. This is
a renewable source, and it provides a lot of heat. It
could be used for electrical power generators,
power-plants, and there are many uses of geothermal
resources. The amount of energy which can be used
varies on the extraction method and the depth of the
rock. The lower you go down the earth the more
temperature and the more usable energy you will
get.

Solar panels
Solar panels convert sun light to electricity. This process is
called Photovoltaic effect. This is a good energy resource
if the other resources are not available. This can be the last
resort because it takes a long time to convert it to
electrical energy. It can not produce a lot of energy in
short time. It needs a lot of sunlight.

A dam

Hydroelectric power
This energy resource uses water to
generate electricity. Electricity is
produced by water falling on a turbine
which causes it to move in fast motion.
This motion is causing the production of
energy. Hydroelectric plants are in dams.
This water is stored by rain and when
there is enough water the water will get
released and go to the turbine.

Energy resources Advantages Disadvantages

Biofuels Renewable. Water consumption

Can easily be produced again. Production can be expensive
Cause less pollution.

Geothermal energy Environment friendly Can cause earthquakes

Renewable Very expensive
No fuel required

Solar panels Reduces carbon emissions Won’t work at night only in morning
Decrease your electric bills It’s expensive
Works for 25-30 years.

Hydroelectric power Renewable Expensive

Does not produce greenhouse Creating a dam may damage the
emissions environment and people might need to
change locations if the place got
flooded.
Fossil fuels
Fossil fuels are a non-renewable
energy resource as they take million of
years to be produced again because
they are made by dead animals and
plants. They contain carbon and
hydrogen atoms which then are burnt
to produce heat and the heat is used in
power plants. Coal, oil, and natural
gas are all different types of fossil
fuels.

Burning of fossil fuels Heat energy

Nuclear energy
The energy that an atom's nucleus releases is known as
nuclear energy. There are two ways to release this
energy: fusion and fission. An atom's nucleus splits into
two smaller nuclei during fission, releasing a significant
quantity of energy. When two smaller nuclei fuse
together to form a bigger nucleus, energy is released
throughout the process. Electricity may be produced
using nuclear energy without releasing greenhouse
gases that worsen climate change. It is a type of carbon-
free energy that might meet a sizable amount of the
global need for electricity.
Advantages and disadvantages
Energy resource Advantages Disadvantages

Fossil fuels Cheap and reliable Produce pollution and greenhouse

Plenty of fossil fuels gasses.
Takes a long time to be produced

Nuclear Energy Higher power output Very dangerous

Expensive to build a
PowerStation.
