Immediate Entry Bursary


• My name is Daryl-Lynn MacNeal, Student Transitions Officer at the Nicola Valley Institute of
Technology (NVIT). I am writing to inform you about our Immediate Entry Bursary which is
available to any eligible Indigenous student in B.C. who is graduating under the Dogwood
Program and who will be transitioning directly to NVIT (Merritt or Vancouver campuses)
after high school.
• The bursary will be awarded in an amount up to $2,896 to be applied to the tuition for the
program of choice.
• Note: Students must apply and be accepted to NVIT by June 30, 2024, make an
appointment with an Academic Planner, and be registered in a minimum 60% course load
for each semester of their first year of studies to be considered eligible for the bursary.

• Skills Canada is just around the corner!! This year, a number of Skills Canada Regional
contests which will occur at various Surrey school sites and Kwantlen Polytechnic
University’ Tech Campus in Cloverdale.
• The contests will be held at various Surrey Secondary school sites on March 6, 2024.

• As mentioned at the December CAED meeting, Queen Elizabeth would like to extend an
invitation to students across the district to apply to our Automotive Co-Op.
• The Co-Op is for students interested in a career in the mechanics, heavy duty, aviation,
and transport industries, and will occur next year in semester 1.
• We ask that all interested students complete the two-page application and give it to their
CDF by March 11.
• CDFs should then send the student's application, IEP (if applicable), Diploma Verification
Record, and Permanent Student Record as one PDF to Megan McGarry by March 13.

• Jill of All Trades is a day-long event led by female mentors to inspire young women in Grades 9 through 12
to pursue careers in the Skilled Trades. Participants will experience a fun-filled day of practical, in-the-shop
sessions.
• Be ready to see the BCIT facilities, interact with industry professionals, and join a series of workshops in
several disciplines that may include: Ironworking, Sheet Metal, CNC Machinist, Industrial Instrumentation,
Security Alarm Technician, Joinery, and Motorcycle Technician.

• ACE Microcredential: Introductory Design and Technical Skills for Architecture, Construction &
Engineering

• BCIT’s “ACE” Program will introduce students to the entry level design, technical and communication
skills that are highly sought after by today’s top employers in these fields.
• While the July 2024 intake of the ACE Certificate is open to students currently enrolled in Grade 12
expecting to graduate in June 2024, as well as recent (i.e. 2023) high school graduates, we are
specifically interested in reaching students who would truly benefit from this opportunity. This program
