PROVIDING
IDEAS
- This lesson will help you to have basic pattern in speaking in order
to provide relevant information to share.
SPEAKING
PATTERN
Suppose you are asked a question like:

‘’What do you think about Pare?’’

You may answer: I think Pare is a nice place to live.
Well, if you stop just right there, the conversation becomes less interesting. You need more
relevant information to support your statement above. Thus, here they are!

5-Es, you can practice to help you provide ideas!

4
What are 5-Es?
Let’s have a look at how we provide ideas below:

Previously, we said, ‘’I think Pare is a nice place to live’’.

In this case, you should provide more information and you can EXPLAIN why you think so, like saying ‘’The food is very
affordable compared to my hometown. Most local people here are very friendly as well since it is a village not a big city.
Also I like the weather. It is cooler than in Jakarta.’’

You can also share your EXPERIENCE as an EXAMPLE if possible; ‘’Here I met a lot of people from different parts of the
country like Salman and Arjun. We only met for a month but it felt like we had been friends for years. We spent lots of time
together, have many things in common, and they are very fun also kind-hearted.’’

5
The point is
✗ When speaking, try to provide more details,
✗ Your first statement commonly is a general view on something,
✗ So,you should EXPLAIN it, give EXAMPLE (such as EXPERIENCE,
EVIDENCE, or even EXTRA INFORMATION)
✗ It’s not necessary to use them all, use which fits your need,
✗ We use evidence usually in a form of data, statistics, diagram, pictures, or so,
while extra information is your references like knowledge you learned from
someone or books.
