Objectives of MNREGA:
 Preamble : An Act to provide for the enhancement of livelihood security of the households in rural
areas of the country by providing at least one hundred days of guaranteed wage employment in
every financial year to every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual
work and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
 To create durable assets in rural areas.
 It also helps in

3. Reducing rural-urban migration
4. Fostering social equity etc..

Eligibility criteria:
 The applicant must be a citizen of India.
 The applicant must be over the age of 18 years.
 The applicant should be 1) willing to do the unskilled work.
2) Landless.
Salient features of the Act :
 The scheme provides for at least 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to at least one
member of every household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
