Introduction
What is "DFMA"?
DFMA stands for Design for Manufacture and Assembly. It is a
methodology used in the manufacturing industry to optimize the design
of a product.
DFMA considers the entire lifecycle of a product, from its design and
development to its production, assembly, and maintenance.
DFA is called Design for Assembly. DFA is the practice of designing product
with assembly in mind. "Design for assembly" means the design of the product
for ease of assembly. So design for Manufacture and assembly is the
combination Of DFM and DFA.
DFMA implementation approach
Following Steps are followed when DFMA used in the
design process:

Being the first step of the DFMA analysis, existing assembly design
was analysed with DFA analysis.
By reducing the parts, it is very evident that the existing can be
improved without losing the product quality and specification.
DFA analysis of the food processor
The first step for DFA analysis of the food processor was
documentation of the assembly sequence of the product.
This formed the information base from which the software generated
reports on the possible candidates for elimination and DFA index.
From the DFA report, different possible candidate elimination and the
assembly time of the component/assembly level was identified.

Calculation of DFA Index
Overall cost savings of 0.25 USD (INR 16.79) and assembly time savings
of 108.49 s was achieved.
