How to express

Wish + would / wouldn’t


We use wish + person/ thing + would / wouldn’t to
talk about things that we want to happen or stop
happening because they annoy us.

Example:

I wish my students wouldn’t use their cellphones all


the time.
Wish + Past Simple
We use wish + Past Simple to talk about things we
would like to be different in the present or the
future.

Example:
I wish I were taller. (I’m too short)

Note: You can use were with I, he, she , it.


Wish + Past Perfect
We use wish + Past Perfect for things that happened or
didn’t happen in the past and which you now regret.

Example:
I wish I hadn’t forgotten Mum’s birthday.
