science and technology as a priority to
national development.

• 1967, in his Second State of the Nation


Address (SONA) on January 23, 1967,
President Marcos declared that science
was necessary for the development
programs, and ordered the Department of
Education to strengthen the science
courses in public high schools.
• In President Marcos' Third State of the
Nation Address on January 22, 1968.
• On April 6, 1968, he proclaimed 35 hectares
in Bicutan, Taguig, Rizal as the site of the
Philippine Science Community.

• In his Fourth SONA on January 27, 1969,


President Marcos allocated a big part of the
war damage fund to private universities to
motivate them to create courses in science,
technology and research.
• In his Fifth State of the Nation Address on
January 26, 1970.

on Geological Sciences to advise
