Volume

and
Capacity
Capacity
- is the amount a container can hold.
- It is measured in the International System
of units (SI) base unit called litres (L). The
most common units for capacity are litre
(L) and millilitre (mL).
The oil, juice drink and gasoline
containers are just a few examples of
objects that illustrate capacity.
Example.
A) How many mL does 10 L represent?
10 000 mL

B) How many L does 4000 mL represent?

4L

C) How many mL does 7.4 L represent?

7400 mL
Volume
- is the amount of space a container or
object occupies.
- it is often measured in terms of cubic
centimeter (cm³) and cubic meter (m³)
Example.
capacity
Capacity is the amount
of water required to fill
the fish tank (ml or L).

Example.
What is the volume of a cube if the side is
1. 4cm?

2. 6cm?

3. 9cm?
4. Calculate the volume of the box
5. Find the volume
30 cm
V=lxwxh
V = 60cm x 20cm x 30cm
V = 36000cm³ 20 cm
Capacity 60 cm
1000cm³ = 1L

36000cm³
= 36L

Practice!
1. Carlo has 2 L bottle of soda. How many
glasses can it fill with 200 mL of soda?

2. A pool is 10 meters long and 6 meters wide.

If it is to be filled with water to a uniform of
depth of 1.5 meters, how many liters of water
are needed?
