“GLOBALIZATION”

DEFINITION

 Globalization is the process by which businesses,

organizations or individuals develop international
influence or start operating on an international
scale. It involves the interconnection of global
markets and businesses, leading to increased
cultural exchange, economic integration, and the
sharing of ideas and technologies across boarders.
2 CONCEPTS OF GLOBALIZATION

 Homogeneity in Globalization - This refers to the process

where cultures, ideas, and products become increasingly
similar or uniform across the globe due to globalization. For
example, we can see the same multinational corporations, like
McDonald's or Starbucks, in many different countries. This
can lead to a loss of cultural diversity and local traditions.
2 CONEPTS OF GLOBALIZATION

 Heterogeneity in Globalization – it refers to the idea that,

despite global influences, local cultures and traditions
continue to exist and thrive. It can lead to a mixing of cultures,
resulting in unique blends rather than a single, homogenized
global culture. This can result in a rich diversity of ideas,
traditions, and products.

THREE TYPES OF GLOBALIZATION

 Economic Globalization refers to the increasing

interconnectedness of world’s economies.

 Political globalization refers to how the events in one nation

affects events in other nations.

 Cultural globalization refers to the people from all over the world
enjoying the same types of entertainment, cuisiness, habits, etc.
BENEFITS OF GLOBALIZATION

 Economic Growth - It has led to increased trade between nations, which can
stimulate economic activity and create jobs. Companies can access new
markets, leading to more sales and profits. Similarly, consumers can access a
wider variety of goods and services, often at lower prices. Globalization also
encourages competition, which can lead to innovation and improved products.

 Cultural Exchange - Globalization allows for the sharing and blending of

different cultures, ideas, and values. This can lead to a greater understanding
and appreciation of other cultures, fostering global harmony. It can also lead to
the spread of beneficial social norms and practices, such as human rights,
democracy, and equality.
BENEFITS OF GLOBALIZATION

 Technological Advancements - Globalization has played a

key role in the spread of technology and innovation.
Companies can collaborate with international partners,
pooling resources and expertise to drive technological
advancements. Consumers around the world can access the
latest technology, often improving quality of life.
NEGATIVE IMPACT of GLOBALIZATION
 Income Inequality - Globalization can increase wealth disparities between and
within countries.
 Job Displacement - It can lead to job losses in higher-wage countries as companies
move jobs to lower-wage countries.
 Cultural Erosion - Globalization can threaten cultural diversity as global cultures
become more homogenized.
 Environmental Impact - It can contribute to environmental degradation due to
increased production and consumption.
 Exploitation of Developing Countries - Globalization can lead to the exploitation
of workers in developing countries by multinational corporations.
EFFECTS of GLOBALIZATION

 Economic Impact - Globalization can lead to increased trade, economic growth,

and prosperity, but it can also cause income inequality and job displacement.
 Cultural Impact - It can result in both cultural exchange and cultural erosion,
leading to a mix of global and local cultures.
 Technological Impact - Globalization has accelerated the spread of technology
and innovation, improving access to information and communication worldwide.
 Environmental Impact - It can lead to increased consumption and production,
contributing to environmental degradation.
 Social Impact - Globalization can lead to the spread of social norms and values,
but it can also result in the exploitation of workers in developing countries.
