Punjab, often referred to as the "Land of Five Rivers," is a
state located in the northwestern region of India.
It is known for its rich cultural heritage, vibrant
traditions, and historical significance.

The region lying near the foot hills of Himalayas receive heavy rainfall
whereas the region lying at a distant from the hills, the rainfall is scanty
and the temperature is high.
Punjab Climate comprises of three seasons.
They are the summer months that spans from mid April to the end of
June.
The rainy season in Punjab is from the months of early July to end of
September.
The winter season in Punjab is experienced during the months of early
December to the end of February.
State Symbols of Punjab
Sheesham (Tahli in Punjabi) is the state tree of Punjab. It is also
known as Indian Rosewood and grows mainly along the banks of
rivers.
Black Buck (Kala Hiran) is the state animal of Punjab. The animal is
found mainly in the Abohar wildlife sanctuary, which is an open
sanctuary spread over many villages and contains thousands of
animals of this species.
HISTORY
The region that is now Punjab has been
inhabited since ancient times, with evidence
of the Indus Valley Civilization, one of the
world's oldest urban civilizations.
Over centuries, various empires and
dynasties ruled over the region, including
the Achaemenid Empire, Maurya Empire,
and the Gupta Empire.
The region's strategic location made
it a crossroads for trade and
invasions.
CULTURE AND
TRADITIONS
Punjab is known for its lively celebration of
festivals. Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is
celebrated with great enthusiasm, with homes
and public places illuminated with oil lamps
and candles.
Holi, the Festival of Colors, is marked by
people smearing each other with colored
powders and water.
Baisakhi, the harvest festival, is one of the
most significant celebrations in Punjab.

Sikhism originated in Punjab in the 15th
century with the teachings of Guru Nanak
Dev Ji, the first of the ten Sikh Gurus.
Sikhs believe in one God and follow the
teachings of the Guru Granth Sahib, the
holy scripture of Sikhism.
The Golden Temple in Amritsar, also known
as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is the holiest shrine
for Sikhs and a major pilgrimage site.
Sikh men are easily recognizable by their
turbans and uncut hair, while women often
wear traditional Punjabi attire.

SCIENCE
1.Prominent Educational Institutions: Punjab is home
to several prestigious educational institutions, both at
the school and university levels. Some notable ones
include Punjab University in Chandigarh, Panjab
University in Patiala, and Guru Nanak Dev University in
Amritsar.
2.School Education: The state government has made
efforts to improve the quality of school education.
Punjab's education system follows the 10+2 pattern,
and the state has many government and private schools
providing quality education.

universities offering a wide range of courses
in various disciplines, including engineering,
medicine, arts, and sciences. These

TOURISM
Punjab attracts tourists with its historical sites,
including the Golden Temple in Amritsar and
the Wagah Border ceremony. The state's
natural beauty, cultural festivals, and warm
hospitality make it a popular destination.
The Golden Temple is the holiest shrine in
Sikhism and one of the most visited religious
sites in India.
