BACKGROUND
The northeastern region of India has a rich history
dating back to ancient times. It was inhabited by
various indigenous tribes and ethnic groups, each
with its own distinct culture, traditions, and socio-
political systems.
The region's strategic location, rich natural
resources, and cultural diversity attracted the
attention of the British colonial administration.
After India gained independence in 1947, efforts
were made to integrate the northeastern states into
the Indian Union
The Government of India implemented various
policies to address these issues, including the
creation of autonomous councils and special
development packages.
Today, the northeastern states of India are an integral
part of the Indian Union, contributing to the
country's cultural diversity, economic growth, and
strategic significance.
CULTURAL
DIVERSITY
The Seven Sister States of India, boast rich cultural
diversity, vibrant food traditions, and colorful festivals

Arunachal Pradesh: Known for its diverse tribal cultures,


with festivals like Losar and Nyokum celebrated with
traditional dance and music.
Assam: Famous for its tea culture and the Bihu festival,
with energetic dance performances.
Manipur: Renowned for its classical Manipuri dance and
festivals like Yaoshang and Kang.
Meghalaya: Home to the Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia tribes,
known for their unique customs, and festivals such as
Nongkrem and Wangala.
Mizoram: Celebrates Chapchar Kut and Mim Kut,
showcasing traditional Mizo dances and music.
Nagaland: Diverse tribal cultures celebrated through
festivals like Hornbill Festival, showcasing traditional arts,
crafts, and cuisines.
Tripura: Known for its rich cultural heritage reflected in
festivals like Durga Puja and Garia Puja, accompanied by
traditional cuisines like Mui Borok.

FAUNA
Arunachal Pradesh: Home to rare species like the Mishmi
Takin, Red Panda, Clouded Leopard, Orchids like
Dendrobium and Rhynchostylis adorn its forests.
Assam: Famous for the Indian Rhinoceros, Royal Bengal
Tiger, the Hoolock Gibbon, Its Kaziranga National Park
hosts diverse species including Greater Adjutant Stork.
Meghalaya: Known for the Clouded Leopard, Asian
Elephant,rare Hoolock Gibbon, Its forests are rich in
orchids, ferns, and unique insect species.
Manipur: Habitat for the Sangai Deer, the rare Mrs.
Hume's Pheasant. Diverse birdlife includes the Manipur
Bush Quail.
Mizoram: Rich in avian species like the Blyth's Tragopan
and Mrs. Hume's Pheasant. It's also home to the Clouded
Leopard and Hoolock Gibbon.
Nagaland: Hosts the state bird, Blyth's Tragopan and
other rare species like the Spotted Wren-Babbler.
Tripura: Rich in biodiversity with species like the Asian
Elephant, Phayre's Leaf Monkey, and the Clouded
Leopard.
