CIRCULATORY

SYSTEM
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
It is also called the
cardiovascular system.
It includes the heart and the
network of blood vessels
that circulate blood
throughout the body.
Its main work is to
carries blood and
nutrients to the cells
and carries away the
waste product of the
cells.
HEART
It is a hollow, muscular
organ that pumps
oxygenated blood
throughout the body
and deoxygenated
blood to the lungs.

VENTRICLE VENTRICLE
The atria (left and right atrium)
are the two upper chambers of
the heart.
The left atrium receives
oxygenated blood from the lungs.
The right atrium receives
deoxygenated blood returning
from other parts of the body.
The ventricles are the two lower
chambers of the heart.
Blood empties into each
ventricle from the atrium above,
and then shoots out to where it
needs to go.

Keep your HEART HEALTHY
- Eat healthy.
- Get active.
- Stay at a healthy weight.
- Quit smoking and stay away from
secondhand smoke.
- Control your cholesterol and blood
pressure.
- Drink alcohol only in moderation.
- Manage stress.
BLOOD VESSELS
These are channels that
carry blood throughout
your body.
They form a closed loop,
like a circuit, that begins
and ends at your heart.

ARTERIES
Oxygenated blood flows away
from the heart through
arteries.
The walls of arteries are
thicker than the walls of veins,
with more smooth muscle and
elastic tissue.

VEINS
Veins carry blood back toward the
heart.
It collect oxygen-poor blood and
return it to your heart.
Vein walls are thinner and less
elastic than artery walls. The
pressure pushing blood through
them is not as great.

CAPILLARIES
These are tiny vessels that
branch out from arterioles to form
networks around body cells.

It absorb carbon dioxide and other

waste products from the tissues
and then flow the deoxygenated
blood into the veins.

BLOOD
It transports oxygen
and other essential
substances throughout
the body, fights
sickness, and performs
other vital functions.
- It absorbs oxygen from air in the
lungs.
- It transports the oxygen to cells
throughout the body, and it removes
waste carbon dioxide from the
cells.
- In the lungs, the carbon dioxide
moves from the blood to the air and
is exhaled.
The cells in the body
will die if there is an
absence of oxygen.
