What is acid?

 Acids are substances that tastes sour, is corrosive and


turns blue litmus paper into red.

PROPERTIES OF ACIDS

 Substances or food containing acid tastes tangy,


sour
 Theyare corrosive (they dissolve any surface that
they come in contact with)
 They are harmful or irritant
Foods containing
acids
 Citrusy fruits (lemon, lime,
orange, grape etc.)
 Vinegar
 Coffee
 Soft drinks
 Tomato cetchup etc.

What is alkali?

 Alkalis are substances that tastes bitter, feels slippery, is


corrosive and turns red litmus paper into blue.

 It feels slippery/soapy
 They are corrosive
 They are harmful or irritant
Products containing
alkali
 Cleaning products (floor
cleaner, glass cleaner etc.)
 Soap
 Toothpaste
 Bicarbonate of soda
 Washing soda etc.
