Types of Aquaporins

Plant aquaporins are classified into four major subfamilies: plasma membrane intrinsic proteins (PIPs), tonoplast intrinsic proteins
(TIPs), nodulin-like intrinsic proteins (NIPs), and small basic intrinsic proteins (SIPs). Each subfamily has a distinct expression
pattern and subcellular localization, and they contribute to the regulation of water transport in different organs and tissues of plants.
