 The application of analytical chemistry as a
scientific tool for solving problem in oil and gas
industry

Chemistry plays an important role in the petroleum industry in several ways. First, chemistry is used to •
separate and purify the different components of crude oil. Cracking, distillation and condensation processes
are used to convert crude oil into various petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, oils and gases.
Secondly, chemistry is used in catalytic cracking processes to improve the quality of petroleum products and
increase the efficiency of processes. Chemical catalysts are used to speed up and facilitate chemical
reactions and reduce the required reaction temperature. Third, chemistry is used to improve the quality of
petroleum products by removing impurities and improving the physical and chemical properties of the
products. Processes such as drying, bleaching, chemical analysis and hybridization are used to achieve this.
Finally, chemistry is used in operations to extract oil from wells and improve well productivity. Chemicals
such as polymer-based materials, silicone-based materials, and foam are used to help improve oil flow and
reduce slurry and sediment resistance. In general, it can be said that chemistry contributes to improving the
.efficiency of petroleum industry processes and improving the quality of the petroleum products produced

hydrocarbons such as alkanes and alkenes. We call the process used to obtain these alkanes and alkenes

refining operations. 5- Design and develop water, gas and steam production systems and analyze and evaluate the
factors that affect their performance. 6- Design and develop safety systems and protection against risks and
accidents resulting from production and refining operations. 7- Design and development of measurement, control,
analysis and control equipment for chemical processes used in the oil and gas industries.

process of injecting fluids into oil wells to increase the productivity of the well and maintain the
oiliness of the wells. 3- Dealing with waste: Chemicals are used to treat and remove oil waste
and reduce its negative effects on the environment. 4- New wells: Chemicals are used to
desalinate water and improve the quality of the water used in the new wells. 5- Well
maintenance: Chemicals are used to maintain and repair oil wells and renew tools and equipment
