• 1903– first successful flight was by Wilbur and Orville Wrights, kitty Hawk, North carolina
• 1909- French pilot Louis bleriot crossed the English channel to England
• 1911- Beginning of air flight in India from Allahbad to Naini by Henri Piquet
• 1912- flight between Delhi and Karachi
• 1914- Air passenger transport began in Germany
• 1918-First International service between France and Spain
• 1927-First civil aviation department was established
• 1929- Regular Air service between Delhi and karachi
• 1932-Tata Airways Ltd. Was set up
• 1933- Indian Trans-Continental Airways ltd was formed
• 1938- By the end of year153 Aircrafts were registered
• 1946- Air Transport Licencing Board was established

• 1947– Tata Airways Ltd changed its name to Air India Ltd.
• 1948- Air India International Ltd. Was established by the Govt.
• 1953- Air transport corporation Bill was passed under which Air India International and Indian
Airlines were formed as Public sector Corporation
• 1972- International Airport Authority Of India(IAAI) was set up
• 1980- National Airport Authority of India (NAAI) was established
• 1994-IAAI merged with NAAI to form Airport Authority of India

ICAO ‘s main aim and objectives is to develop the principles and techniques for international air navigation
Objectives:
• ICAO Ensure the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation throughout the world
• ICAO provides the machinery for the achievement of international co-operation in the air
• ICAO provides the international link between civil and military flying activities
• ICAO also provides assistance to developing countries by the provision of internal experts, instructors,
training, equipment and fellowships or training aboard.
• Insure that the rights of contracting states are fully respected and that every contracting states has a fair
opportunity to operate international airlines

Functions
• It undertakes or supervise all technical developments work in the fields of aeronautics
• It prescribes and enforces the civil air regulations for safety standards
• It makes provisions for the control and protection for air traffic moving in air commerce

Airport Authority of India was constituted by an Act of parliament on 1 st April 1995, by merging National
airport authority and International Airport Authority of India.
Functions
• Control and the management of the Indian air space extending beyond the territorial limits of the country
as accepted by ICAO
• Design, development, maintenance and operation of International and domestic airports
• Development and management of cargo and passenger terminals
• Provision of passenger facilities and information system at the passenger terminals
• Expansion and strengthening of operation area
