ENDOCRINE SYSTEM

ENDOCRINE
SYSTEM
•The endocrine system is
made up of glands and
organs that makes hormones
that control many important
function.
•The glands and organs that make hormones and
release them directly into the blood so they can
travel to tissues and organs all over the body.

•There are eight major endocrine glands

scattered throughout the body(Pituitary
gland,Pineal Gland,Thyroid
Gland,Thymus,Adrenal
Gland,Pancreas,Ovary,and Testis) but they are
still considered to be one system because they
have similar functions, similar mechanisms of
influence, and many important
interrelationships.
Pituitary gland
The pituitary gland is referred to as the
“master gland” because it monitors and
regulates many bodily functions through the
hormones that it produces, including:
Growth and sexual/reproductive
development and function. Glands (thyroid
gland, adrenal glands, and gonads)
Thyroid gland

The thyroid gland produces

hormones that regulate the
body's metabolic rate,
growth and development.
Adrenal gland
A small gland that makes steroid hormones,
adrenaline, and noradrenaline. These
hormones help control heart rate, blood
pressure, and other important body
functions. There are two adrenal glands,
one on top of each kidney. Also called
suprarenal gland.
Testis
part of the anatomy of men and people assigned
male at birth. Generally, you'll have two
testicles. These body parts make sperm and
hormones.
The Testis has following three functions. First, it
produces spermatozoa, the male gametes. Second,
it synthesizes testosterone, the principal male sex
hormone. Third, it participates with the
hypothalamus-pituitary unit in regulating
reproductive function.
Pineal gland
It's a part of your endocrine system and
secretes the hormone melatonin. Your pineal
gland's main job is to help control the circadian
cycle of sleep and wakefulness by secreting
melatonin. The pineal gland is shaped like a
tiny pinecone, which is how it got its name
(“pine”-al gland)
Thymus

The thymus gland is a small organ

that lies in the upper chest under the
breastbone.
Pancreas
The pancreas contains glands that release
substances to help with digestion and
control blood sugar. Type 1 and Type 2
diabetes are common pancreatic
conditions. Other pancreas conditions
include pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer
Ovary
One of a pair of female glands in
which the eggs form and the female
hormones estrogen and
progesterone are made.
Hypothalamus
gland
•The hypothalamus secretes hormones
that stimulate or suppress the release
of hormones in the pituitary gland, in
addition to controlling water balance,
sleep, temperature, appetite, and blood
pressure.
Brain

The brain is a vital part of the human

body as it is the center which
controls and coordinates all the vital
psychological functions of the body
Parathyroid
gland
One of four pea-sized glands found
on the surface of the thyroid. The
parathyroid hormone made by these
glands increases the calcium level in
the blood.
Plancenta

The placenta is an organ that develops in the

uterus during pregnancy. This structure
provides oxygen and nutrients to a growing
baby. It also removes waste products from the
baby's blood. The placenta attaches to the
wall of the uterus, and the baby's umbilical
cord arises from it.
Summary
•The indocrine system, made up of all the
body's different hormones, regulates all
biological processes in the body from
conception through adulthood and into old
age, including the development of the brain
and nervous system, the growth and
function of the reproductive system, as well
as the metabolism and blood sugar.
