Frequency Polygon

 By vinitha
 Frequency Polygon It is a curve instead of bars. There are two
methods for constructing frequency
polygon. First, histogram should be drawn and mark mid point of upper side o
f each bar and join such joints by a curve. In the second method, first
of all plot the frequencies corresponding to midpoints of
various class intervals. Then join all the plotted points to get the frequency p
olygon curve.
Ogive or Cumulative Frequency Curve

 A frequency distribution when cumulated, we get cumulative frequency

distribution
and curve drawn is known as ogive. An ogive can either less than ogive or mo
re than ogive.
Less than ogive curve is drawn on the basis of less than cumulative frequency
distribution and
more than ogive is drawn on the basis of more than cumulative frequency dist
ribution.
Difference between Diagrams and
Graphs
 In the construction of a graph , generally graph paper is used which helps us
to study the mathematical relationship between the two variables .On the
other hand , diagrams are generally constructed on a plane paper and are
used for comparisons only.
 Diagrams furnish only approximate information . They are not useful for
statistical analysis . Graphs are more precise and accurate and are helpful for
estimation , interpolation , extrapolation etc.
 While diagrams are useful in depicting categorical and geographical data,
graphs are used for the study of time series and frequency distributions.
 Construction of graph is easier than that of diagrams
