Practices in workshop :
Welding machines
Welder should never attempt to repair or
install welding machine.
• Convenient primary power receptacles
should be provided and not to be attached
to lighting circuit.
• It should not be operated above its current
ratings.

• If one or more welding machines electrode
holders are used, it should not touch each
other.
• Check all connections if secured or not
before starting the operation.
• Switch-off the power supply if machine is to
be moved or welder stops at an extended
period of time.

Cable and electrical connections
Cable connection should be insulated on both
ground and electrode holder line if several
lengths are coupled together.
• It should be arranged neatly or hung above
for easy passage.
• Steel conduits containing electrical wirings,
wire ropes, cranes, hoists and elevators
should not carry welding current.

• If metal structure of the building carries
welding current, make sure that proper
electrical contact exists at all joints.
• All ground cables must be kept dry and be
free from grease and oil. They should be
arranged not to lie on water and oil, in
ditches or on tank bottom.
Electrode holders
It present hazards as overheating
and electric shock.
Proper care should be taken to use
holders of the proper design for
the work being performs.
If it is hot, it must be cooled and use
extra one. Do not dip it in water.
Removed electrodes from holders
when not in use
On job site:
• Use helmet
• Put screen on the perimeter of work area
• Be aware of what you are doing and your
surroundings
• Put-off power supply when not in use
• Do not leave things unattended
• Coordinate with authorized personnel
