Effects of

Hormones in the
Body
Katrina S. Caoyonan
Endocrine
System
Disorder
Gigantism and
Acromegaly
A disorder that happens when
there is abnormal increase in height
associated with too much secretion of
growth hormones.
Dwarfism or Pituitary
Dwarfism
A condition wherein the
production of growth hormones in the
pituitary gland is insufficient resulting in
short stature.
Hyperthyroidism
It happens when the thyroid gland
makes too much thyroid hormone. This
condition also is called overactive thyroid.
Hyperthyroidism speeds up the body's
metabolism. That can cause many
symptoms, such as weight loss, hand
tremors, and rapid or irregular heartbeat.
Hypothyroidism
It happens when the thyroid gland
doesn't make enough thyroid hormone. This
condition is also called underactive thyroid.
Hypothyroidism symptoms may include:
Tiredness, More sensitivity to cold,
Constipation, Dry skin, Weight gain, Puffy
face, Hoarse voice, Coarse hair and skin,
and Muscle weakness.
Goiter
Abnormal enlargement of the thyroid
gland. It results from the
underproduction or overproduction of thyroid
hormones.
Iodine deficiency is the most common
cause of goiter. The body needs iodine to
produce thyroid hormone. If you do not have
enough iodine in your diet, the thyroid gets
larger to try and capture all the iodine it can, so
it can make the right amount of thyroid
hormone.
Osteoporosis
It is a disease that happens when the
mineral density of the bone is reduced making it
brittle and porous. Parathyroid hormone
secretion is one of the
possible causes of this disease.
Parathyroid Hyperplasia

Parathyroid hyperplasia involves

enlargement of all four parathyroid glands,
which are located in the neck and control
calcium metabolism. The condition produces
high levels of calcium in the blood
(hypercalcemia).
Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition that happens

when your blood sugar (glucose) is too high. It
develops when your pancreas doesn’t make
enough insulin or any at all, or when your body
isn’t responding to the effects of insulin
properly.
Hyperinsulinemia
It happens when you have a higher
amount of insulin in your blood than what's
considered normal. Insulin is a hormone your
pancreas makes and releases that’s essential for
life and for regulating blood glucose (sugar)
levels, specifically by lowering glucose levels. If
a person has excess insulin in their body and
doesn’t have insulin resistance, it would cause
low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Polycystic ovary
syndrome (PCOS)
A condition in which the ovaries
produce an abnormal amount of androgens, male
sex hormones that are usually present in women
in small amounts.
Precocious Puberty
Precocious puberty is when children's
bodies begin to change into adult bodies too
soon. The cause is the release of estrogen or
testosterone into the body. A problem with the
ovaries, testicles, adrenal glands or pituitary
gland causes the hormone release.
Infertility
Testosterone (T) is a key male
hormone. Low testosterone occurs when a man's
testosterone drops below normal levels. It can
directly affect fertility by causing decreased
sperm production and indirectly affect fertility
by reducing his sex drive and causing erectile
dysfunction.
