INTRODUCTION

• Monitoring heart rate is very important for athletes, patients as it determines the condition of the
heart.
• A heart rate monitor is a personal monitoring device that allows a subject to measure their heart rate in
real.
• The heart rate of a healthy adult at rest is around 72 beats per minute (bpm) & Babies at around 120
bpm, while older children have heart rates at around 90 bpm.
ABSTRACT

• The main objective of the project is Heartbeat Sensor is an electronic device that is used to measure the
heart rate i.e. speed of the heartbeat.

• Our idea is to design a Heart Rate Monitor System using Arduino and Heartbeat Sensor.

• You can find the Principle of Heartbeat Sensor; working of the Heartbeat Sensor and Arduino based
Heart Rate Monitoring System using a practical heartbeat Sensor.
EXISTING SYSTEM

• In the earlier iterations of heart rate monitoring systems, technology was more limited in its capabilities.
• These older versions typically consisted of simple handheld devices or bedside monitors with basic LED
displays.
• They would require physical contact with the patient's skin, often in the form of a chest strap or
electrodes, to capture the electrical signals produced by the heart. The accuracy and reliability of these
systems were sometimes questionable, as they could be susceptible to interference and noise.
COMPONENT REQUIRED

• ARDUINO UNO
• PULSE SENSOR
• LCD DISPLAY
• LED
• RESISTOR
• BREAD BOARD
• JUMPER WIRES
• Arduino uno

• ARDUINO UNO is a microcontroller board

based on ATmega328P.
• It has 14 digital I/o pins.
• It has 6 analog inputs.
• Arduino can intract with buttons , LEDs,
motors , speakers etc.
PULSE SENSOR

• This sensors measures the heart rate and

biometric pulse rate.
• This sensor is the plug and play model.
• It is having 4 pins –GND,5V,o/p(3.3),o/p(5.0).
I2C LCD DISPLAY

• This is a 16x2 LCD display screen with I2C

interface.
• it have two data connections(SDA,SCL).
• It require GND and VCC connections to power
ON the LCD.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
WORKING

• Upload the code to Arduino UNO and Power on

the system.
• The Arduino asks us to place our finger in the
sensor and press the switch Place any finger
(except the Thumb) in the sensor.
• Based on the data from the sensor, Arduino
calculates the heart rate and displays the
heartbeat in bpm on the led screen.
RESULTS

• Heartbeat Monitoring system using Arduino will

detect the heart beat using the Pulse Sensor .

• Sensor and will show the readings in BPM (Beat

Per Minute) on the LCD connected to it.
ADVANTAGES

• Non contact based.

• cost-effective .
• efficient for assessing heart health.
• Time Management for healthcare professionals.
APPLICATIONS

• acquire and transmit data to the hospital during remote monitoring of patients.
• non-contact ones are used during data acquisition .
• designed to calculate the heart rate of a person.
• This project can be used as an inexpensive alternative to Smart Watches and other Heart Rate
Monitors.
CONCLUSIONS

This objective is with measuring the heart rate . It is helpful where continuous monitoring is required
under critical condition. In addition, it is very usable device due to its portability which means the patients
can carry it with him therefore no need to stay at hospitals because the Heart Rate Monitor is applicable
almost everywhere.
