Is the emotional well-being of an
individual. It is how you think,
feel and act to cope with life. It is
also the ability to perform
comfortably.

response to unpleasant situations.
It is also capable of affecting
one’s physical health.
How will you cope up
with Stress
Stay in to recuperate. Do things
repetitively like household chores
to help your brain pare down.

Get out for good vibes. Go out and get dose
of natural light in a little jog or do yoga.
Exercise lessens anxiety and helps maintain
feeling of calmness even in the face of
distressing events.

Treat yourself to something delicious, but
avoid eating too many sweets. You may have
dark chocolates that have certain chemicals
that relax the blood vessels which reduces
high blood pressure.

Talk to someone whom you trust and
don’t keep it to yourself. Air out your
problems to your family or friends where
you can get good advices.

Relax. Listen to your favorite music,
walk, or do anything you are into. Take a
long bath because it boosts your mood.
Death
Is the irreversible cessation of
life, while dying is the process
resulting to death.
Grief
Is the deep sadness caused by loss of someone,
disaster or tragedy. You my experience all kinds of
emotions and it may feel like the pain of sadness
you are experiencing will never let go. These are
normal reactions to significant loss.
Mental illness
Is a term that describes a variety of psychiatric
(emotional, thinking and behavioral) problems that
vary intensity and duration, and may recur from time
to time. Major mental illnesses include Anxiety, Mood,
Eating and Psychotic Disorders. Mental illnesses are
diagnosable conditions that require medical treatment
as well as other support.
Mental Disorders can be caused by:
Inherited traits – mental illness is more
common in people whose blood relatives
also have a mental illness. Certain genes
may increase your risk developing a
mental illness, and your life situation may
trigger it.
Mental Disorders can be caused by:

Environmental exposures before birth –


exposure to environmental stressors,
inflammatory conditions, toxins, alcohol
or drugs while in the womb can sometimes
be linked to mental illness.
Mental Disorders can be caused by:
Brain Chemistry – neurotransmitters are naturally
occurring brain chemicals that carry signals to other
parts of your brain and body. When the neutral
networks involving these chemicals are impaired,
the function of nerve receptors and nerve systems
also change, leading to depression.
Mental Disorders can be caused by:

Depressive disorder – is not passing blue mood but rather


persistent feelings of sadness and worthless, and lack of
desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. This
includes: Clinical depression, Bipolar or Manic Depressive
Disorder, and Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD.
Mental Disorders can be caused by:

Anxiety Disorder – is when real or imagined fears prevent


an individual from enjoying life because of having panic
attacks. The different types of anxiety are Phobia, Social
Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder,
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress
Disorder and Panic Disorder.
Mental Disorders can be caused by:

Personality Disorder – is when the pattern of thinking,


feeling and acting interfere with the daily life of an
individual. The different types of personality disorder are
Avoidant, Narcissistic, Dependent, Paranoid, Schizoid,
Schizotypal Anti-social, Borderline, and Histrionic
Personality Disorder.
Activity 2
Create a “Sketch for a Cause”. Make a
slogan to promote mental health; this
slogan must be helpful for everyone to
lessen anxiety and stress. Draw it on a
bond paper.
