EFFECTS OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY ON THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF
GRADE 12 AT UNIVERSITY OF CAGAYAN VALLEY.

INTRODUCTION
A woman's pregnancy is a fantastic gift because she gets
to savor every second of holding her child. Additionally, it
creates a happy mood and a positive environment among
her close family. Arthur Campbell stated, “The girl who has
an illegitimate child at the age of 16 suddenly has 90
percent of her life’s script written for her” (Hoffman &
Maynard, 2008). Besides, the National Research Council
Report has shown that underage mothers have a higher
chance of social and economic detriment in their lives
(Hoffman & Maynard, 2008).

It is well known that teenage pregnancy can negatively impact a

young person's development in many areas, including their ability to
succeed in school. Teenage pregnancies have an impact on teens' social
and academically, as well as in terms of health. One of the most
important parts of human existence is pregnancy issue for life. It is
related to both bodily and psychosocial well-being of a population (Alubo,
2001; Onifade, 1999; Sai, 1995).
The specific effects of teenage pregnancy on the academic
performance of grade 12 students at the University of Cagayan Valley
(UCV) are the focus of this study. We seek to further knowledge of the
effects of teen pregnancy and offer insights that can guide the creation of
treatments and support systems to lessen its negative effects by looking
at these students' academic performance.

Research Design
The study uses a mixed method, which is a procedure for
collecting, analyzing, and “mixing” both quantitative and
qualitative research methods in a single study to understand a
research problem. A survey is a tool for gathering information by
administering a questionnaire to a group of people. It is commonly
used to collect data about people's habits, opinions, behaviors,
attitudes, perceptions, or any other variety of education issues.
This design was appropriate for this study since it involves
administering questionnaires to a sample of teachers and
students to collect information about their views on the academic
performance of pregnant teens and young mothers in the school.

such as percentages and frequencies.
• Qualitative data mainly consisted of responses from interviews
and open-ended questions.Data will then put into various
categories according to the themes of the study.
• Qualitative analysis will complement the statistical analysis to
provide a comprehensive account of the problem under study.
• The responses will be summarize and present in tables and
