DECIMALS
Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing
In mathematics, "operation" refers to fundamental
mathematical processes, such as addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division. Decimals
DEFINITION are a way of representing numbers that fall between
whole numbers by using a decimal point. Here are
some common mathematical operations involving
decimals:
ADDING DECIMALS
• There are four basic operation with
decimals. This includes Addition,
subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Addition is the process of combining two
or more numbers to find their total.
• The key concept for this is: a + b, where
'a' and 'b' are the numbers being added.

STEPS IN ADDING DECIMALS

Align the decimals- when Add numbers as whole ,Place decimals point- After
you’re adding decimals, it is numbers- add the numbers as you’re finish adding the
important to have your if they were whole numbers decimals, you place the
decimals lined up properly starting from the right (tenth decimal point directly below
place) the decimal point of the
numbers you were adding
SUBTRACTING DECIMALS
Subtract the
Place the decimal
numbers as whole
point- since both
numbers- Just like
Always align addition, you
original numbers
had one place, the
your subtract the
decimal point in the
numbers starting
decimals- from the right. So in
answer should be
placed one place in
this case it would be
the right
5-2=3 and 7-1=6
MULTIPLYING DECIMALS
When multiplying decimals, perform the multiplication as if
they were whole numbers and then count the total decimal
places in both factors. Place the decimal point in the product
accordingly. Formula: a × b, where 'a' and 'b' are the numbers
being multiplied.
EXAMPLE: MULTIPLYING DECIMALS
1 2 3
Start by multiplying 3 After you multiply Add the answers you
in 2.3 by the top that, multiply the digit get and make it 3
numbers 2 beside the 3 by the decimal places
same top digits.
DIVIDING DECIMALS
To divide decimals, ensure that the divisor (the number you're dividing
by) is a whole number. Perform the division as with whole numbers and
place the decimal point in the quotient where it's located in the dividend.
Key concept: a ÷ b, where 'a' is the dividend and 'b' is the divisor .
EXAMPLE: DIVIDING DECIMALS

YOU USE DIVISIONS
