plant tissue

TISSUE
- is a group of cells that work together to perform a
function
Meristematic Tissue
- makes up the meristem,
which is the region of rapidly
dividing cells.
Three types of meristematic tissues:

• Apical meristems

- meristematic tissues at the tips of roots and stems.

- they produce cells that result in an increase in length.

Three types of meristematic tissues:

2. Intercalary meristems

- this meristem produces new cells that result in an increase in stem or leaf
length.
Three types of meristematic tissues:

3. Lateral meristems

- responsible for the increase in root and stem diameter.

1 . Dermal Tissue System
forms the epidermis or
-

outer covering.
plant tissue system
Epidermis has three specialized structures:

1. Stomata - pores in the leaves; where gas exchange takes place

2.Trichomes - or leaf hairs: provide protection against insects and damaging solar
radiation

3. Root hairs - providing more surface for uptake of water and mineral

2. Ground Tissue System

- located between dermal tissue and vascular

tissue
- it carries out photosynthesis, stores
photosynthetic products, and helps support the
plant.
plant tissue system
It contains three types of cells:
1. Parenchyma - storage of food, photosynthesis and gas exchange
2. Collenchyma - helps to provide strength to the plant's stems,
branches, leaves, and other structures
3. Sclerenchyma - tissue repair and replacement

3. Vascular Tissue System

- plant's transport system.

plant tissue system
It has two tissues:

1. Xylem - distributes water and mineral ions taken up to all the cells of the roots and
shoots.

2. Phloem - transport carbohydrates (sugar) from sites where they are produced (sources)
to sites where they are used or stored (sinks).
