Part A – Read Aloud
• Read the given passage in a smooth and naturally clear voice.
• Don’t fake an accent.
• It’s NOT about speed reading.
• Read the numbered sentences as prompted.
• Performance during this task feeds into pronunciation and fluency scores.
Practice – Read Aloud
1. Larry’s next door neighbours are awful.
2. They play loud music all night when he is trying to sleep.
3. If he tells them to stop , they just turn it up louder.
4. He wants to move out of that neighbourhood.
5. Susan got a new job at the local sports centre.
6. She loves the hours and enjoys swimming in the morning
7. Her colleagues are always there when she needs help.
8. She is working hard to become a valuable member of the team.

Part B – Repeat
• Repeat each sentence EXACTLY as you hear.
• Active Listening is the key.
• Sentences won’t be repeated.
• Don’t write. LISTEN!
• Don’t say sorry if you fumble or didn’t get it right. Remember you’re being
RECORDED

Part C – Short Answer Questions
• You will hear 24 questions , answer each one in a simple response
with one word or two words.
Example :
•Would you write with a pencil or a folder?

•Your answer: a pencil/pencil
• Performance during this task feeds into the vocabulary score

Part D – Sentence Builds
• You’ll hear fragmented parts of a sentence.
• Listen carefully to each part.
• Frame a meaningful sentence from those fragments.
• Speak the sentence clearly.
• Keep a pen handy (Write to remember what you heard)

Part E – Story Retelling
You will hear three short stories , retell them in English with your own
words . You have 30 seconds to retell each story.

small bird with its feet buried in the mud. One of the girls approached it,
but the small bird flew away. The girl ended up with her own feet
covered with mud.

Part F – Open Questions
• Two open questions
• 40 seconds for each one

Example:
Do you think a vegetarian is healthier than a meat diet? Explain your answer.

• Hear a sentence once and type word for word
• 16 Dictation questions and 25 seconds to type each answer
• Pay attention to spelling, capitalization and punctuation
• Focus on the meaning of the sentence to help you remember it

• Type: Can you work on Monday?

Part D – Passage Reconstruction
• Read a passage for 30 seconds and reconstruct the passage in your own
word.
• 4 Passage reconstruction questions and 90 seconds to type each answer .
• Do use your own words and write in complete grammatical sentences .
• Don’t memorize the passage word for word or take notes.
• Don’t write a summary(you should include all details).

Part E – Email Writing
• Read a description of a situation and write an email addressing the issues
described in the situation .
• 2 Email questions and 9 minutes to type each answer .
• Do read the situation carefully and address your email to the right person
• Do write formerly and at least 100 words .
• Don’t use abbreviations .

Versant Tips
1. Go through the instructions carefully before beginning the Versant Test.
2. Make sure your Microphone, Headset, and Monitor are working correctly
3. Listen to all the sentences and conversation during the test carefully and understand the context.
4. Avoid external noise, cover the microphone with your hand (not completely) and keep it close to your mouth while you
speak.
5. Avoid any Grammar mistakes.
6. Speak clearly, at a moderate speed and avoid wrong pronunciation of words.
7. Don't get nervous, if you do, you'll lose your tone. Just believe that you have a basic command over the language, and you
will easily clear the test.
