“EXPLORING STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES

ON QUILLBOT AS A PARAPHRASING
TOOL: IMPLICATION FOR ENHANCING
GRAMMAR COMPETENCY AMONG
GRADE 9 STUDENTS”
Background of the study
Plagiarism can be seen as a dishonored behavior and such
case be referred as a serious ethical violation in academic.
People who got caught for plagiarism often end up with
consequences related to their own research and position.
As Murray (2012) state. Paraphrasing is just writing something in
our own words that convey the original concept of section in a
book or other research source (Trivette, 2020). Basically,
QuillBot.com is online paraphrasing tool that help the users
rewrite their content without changing the original meaning,
along with enhancing the grammar structure to make the original
content more correct and looks more professionally.
Statement of the problem

Central Question: How do Grade 9 students


perceive the effectiveness of QuillBot as a
paraphrasing tool, and what are the potential
implication of its usage for enhancing grammar
competency?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The study will focus on Grade 9 students as the
primary research participants. The research will
target this specific group to explore their
experiences with Quillbot and its impact on their
grammar competency. Moreover, this study will
be conducted in the month of December 2023.
RESEARCH DESIGN
This design will use qualitative design in determining
the student perspectives on Quillbot.com as a
paraphrasing tool among grade 9 students. The
process qualitative research went thought collection
of data, the approach will determine how grade 9
students perceive the effectiveness of Quillbot.com
as a paraphrasing tool and what can be the potential
implication of its usage for enhancing their grammar
competency.
LOCALE OF THE STUDY
This study will be conducted in Notre Dame of
Lambayong Inc. an educational catholic institution
that offers quality education, this school is known as a
school of the champion, the invention in the holistic
development it the standard. This school is located at
the Municipality of Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat owned
and manage by the Diocesan clergy of Cotobato
(DCC).
RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY
The respondents of the study will be the (2) section of grade 9
students composed of examining their perception and experience with
Quillbot.com as a paraphrasing tool and their effect on grammar
competency.
The respondents of the study will be the Grade 9 students- St. Andrew
and St. Anthony of the Notre Dame of Lambayong, Inc. who are
currently enrolled this school year 2023
There is a total of 90 students of Grade 9 from the two (2) sections
who were enrolled in the secondary school. Each section there will be
ten (10) students who will be identified and selected by the
researcher’s s to be the respondents of the study.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

This study employ a purposive sampling technique in


selecting the participants. Therefore, the participants
were chosen based on the researchers' preferences,
selecting individuals whom they believed to be
credible and capable of fulfilling the study's purpose.
RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
The primary research instrument for this study will be semi-
structured interviews. A semi-structured interview guide has
been developed to facilitate in-depth discussion with
participants.
This approach aims to reduce bias and gather reliable,
comparable data with the participants. The interview guide has
been designed to encourage participants to provide detailed
narratives about their experiences in using Quillbot.
Additionally, audio recording with the use of a digital recording
device will be employed to ensure the accurate capture of
interview data.
DATA GATHERING
The researchers will first construct interview guide questions which
undergone validation process. Upon the approval of the guide
questions, permission to conduct the study was asked to the
research adviser.
Next, the researchers sent permission letter to the School President
of Notre Dame of Lambayong Incorporated.
Afterwards, they will present a consent letter to their participants and
explain the study’s purpose. Sufficient time will be given to the
participant to answer all the questions.
After all questions will answer, thematic analysis will be done to
interpret the result of the study.

RIGOR FOR QUALITATIVE RESEARCH
Qualitative data collection and analysis are often
modified through an iterative approach to answering
the research question. Researcher reflexivity,
essentially a researcher’ insight into their own biases
and rationale for decision-making as the study
progresses, is a critical to rigor. This article review
common standards of rigor, quality scholarship
criteria, and best practices for qualitative research
from design through dissemination.
SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE

1. How do frequently do you use Quillbot as a paraphrasing


tool for your academic assignments, and what specific types
of assignments or subject do you use for it?
2. Can you described your experienced with Quillbot in term
of its effectiveness in improving your understanding of
grammar and enhancing the quality of your written
assignments?
3. In what ways do you think Quillbot has influenced your
ability to express ideas in your own words while maintaining
the original meaning of the text?
4. Have you encountered any challenge or limitation
while using Quillbot, and it so, how do you overcome
them when working on your assignments?

5. How do you perceive the role of Quillbot in your


overall learning experience, and do you believe it has
positive contributed to your grammar competency in
grade 9?
