• FUNCTION: provide oxygen, nutrients and hormones
SYSTEM to muscles, tissues and organs throughout your body & remove waste from cells and organs so your body can dispose of it • ANATOMY: This system includes the heart, blood, and blood vessels, namely the arteries, veins and capillaries. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM • Heart - a muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body. It has four chambers: the right and left atria, and the right and left ventricles. The atria receive blood from the veins, while the ventricles push blood out of the heart. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM • Blood - a fluid that transports digested food from the small intestine, oxygen from the lungs and waste products for removal from the body. • Arteries - thin, muscular tubes that carry oxygenated blood away from the heart and to every part of your body CIRCULATORY SYSTEM • Veins - the vessels which carry carbon dioxide-rich blood from all parts of the body back to the heart. • Capillaries - extremely thin tubes that join up to form veins which empty into the heart PROCEDU RE • The right ventricle sends oxygen-poor blood to the lungs. Blood travels through the pulmonary trunk. • Blood cells pick up oxygen in the lungs by its hemoglobin. • Pulmonary veins carry the oxygenated blood from the lungs to the heart’s left atrium. PROCEDU RE • The left atrium sends the oxygenated blood into the left ventricle. This muscular part of the heart pumps blood out to the body through the arteries. • As it moves through your body and organs, blood collects and drops off nutrients, hormones and waste products. PROCEDU RE • The veins carry deoxygenated blood and carbon dioxide back to the heart, which sends the blood to the lungs. • Your lungs get rid of the carbon dioxide when you exhale. PARTS OF URINARY SYSTEM • Kidney - this organ filters the blood and creates urine • Ureters - two thin tubes inside the pelvis carry pee from the kidneys to the bladder. • Bladder - this organ stores the urine. • Urethra - this tube carries urine from the bladder out of the body.
