Anemia in pregnant women

What is anemia?

Anemia is a condition in which the consentrasi hemoglobin decreases.

While anemia in pregnancy is a condition of the mother with a hemoglobin level


below 11 gr % in the I and III trimester or the rate of < 10.5 gr % in II trimester
(Saifuddin , 2002).
What causes anemia?
According to Mochtar (1998) The cause of anemia in general is as follows:

1. Lack of nutrition (malnutrition)

2. Less iron in elemental

3. Mall Absorption

4. Many blood loss such as past childbirth, menstruation and others

5. Chronic diseases such as pulmonary TUBERCULOSIS, intestinal worms, malaria and other
Classification of anemia in pregnant women

1. Iron deficiency Anemia


Anemia that occurs due to iron deficiency in the blood. The treatment is, the
necessity of iron for pregnant women, not pregnant and in the recommended
lactation is the delivery of iron tablets.

2. Megaloblastic Anemia
Anemia caused by folic acid deficiency, rarely because of vitamin B12 deficiency.
3. Hypoplastic Anemia
Anemia caused by hypo bone marrow function, forming new red blood cells. For

4. hemolytic Anemia
Anemia caused by the destruction or breakdown of red blood cells faster than the
