The battle of Dien Bien Phu:
01 - Occured: from March to May in 1954.
- A decisive confrontation in the first
Indochina War between Viet Nam and
General France.
Facts - Led by Vo Nguyen Giap – a militarily self-
taught general of the People’s Army of Viet
Nam.
- After 56 days of fierce fighting, the French
colonial empire was defeated and forced to
sign the Geneva Accords.
The first phase:
- 13th – 17th March, 1954: our forces
02 defeated the Him Lam and Doc Lap
strong holds, assaulted the Ban Keo
fortification.

+ Wiping out 1 regiment threatening

The second phase:
- 30th March to 30th April, 1954, our forces:

+ Advanced on the eastern of the central subzone
+ Tightened the encirclement
+ Cut off and continuously seized control of Muong

+ Restricted enemy resupply to the stronghold.
- On Hill C1, the battle lasted for 20 days, and on Hill
A1 for 30 days.
- The enemy forces became passive after the 2nd attack.
The third phase:
- 6th May , 1954: fierce battles occurred at Hill A1
- 7th May, 1954: seizing the enemy's command post, where General De
Castries and the entire staff and troops of the Dien Bien Phu stronghold.
+ Our flag "Resolve to Fight, Resolve to Win" flew over the enemy's
command bunker.
+ Same night, our forces continued to advance towards the southern
sector, forcing the enemy to retreat to Upper Laos.
 The entire enemy forces had been captured
- After 56 days and nights, our military:
+ Shattered the entire Dien Bien Phu
strongholds
03 + Eliminated 16,200 enemies,
+ Downed 62 aircrafts
+ Seized 64 vehicles,
Result + Captured all of the enemy's weapons
and military equipment.
