INTRODUCTION

• People suffering from diseases like paralysis do not have access to moving or
controlling the devices like mobiles, computers etc.

• It is also difficult for them to communicate effectively.

• To address these problems, devices with Brain Machine Interface(BMI) technology

are being invented.
WHAT IS NEAURALINK?
• Neuralink is a gadget that will be surgically inserted into the brain using robotics by
neurosurgeons.

• It is the idea of Elon musk, who created the company Neuralink in 2016, to design this Brain
Machine Interface called Neuralink.

• This device can then be used to operate smartphones and computers without having to touch
it.

• Neuralink will setup electrodes which will read those impulses, amplify them and send them to
a machine which will then work accordingly. These electrodes support writing also which can
help in treatment of brainly disorders.
HOW DOES IT LOOK?
HOW DOES NEURALINK WORK?
• Neuralink will work in five major steps. They are:

• Creation of threads

• Stitching of threads into the tissues

• Reading the signals and cleaning them

• Transmission of signals to amplifier

• Amplification of signals and transmission to the machines

THREADS:

“Threads” are the ultra-thin, flexible polymer which will

contain the electrodes and will transfer the information
and signals to the transmitter. These threads (4-6 µm) are
thinner than a human hair (17 µm) and have a length of 20
µm.

ELECTRONICS:
The electronics are built around Neuralink’s custom
application specific integrated circuit (ASIC), which consists
of 256 individually programmable amplifiers (analog pixels),
on-chip analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), and peripheral
control circuitry for serializing the digitized outputs.
ROBOT:

• Each N1 Sensor will be placed into a

patient's brain by a surgical robot.
The robot will make a 2mm incision
that dilates to approximately 8mm
before the chip is implanted into the
brain.

• The robot would be able to insert the

link in under an hour.
N1 SENSOR

• Neural Lace, called the N1 Sensor, is made of 1024-channel sensors on a 4mm by 4mm computer
chip.

• N1 chip is made to communicate with other devices wirelessly and is capable of reading and
writing information.

• The N1 Sensor will be controllable through a mobile application, a bluetooth mouse, and a
bluetooth keyboard for helping patients learn how to use the chip effectively after implantation
while they are at home.
THE NEURALINK APP

• The Neuralink app would allow you to control your iOS device, keyboard and mouse
directly with the activity of your brain, just by thinking about it.

• The Neuralink app would guide you through exercises that teach you to control your device.

• With a Bluetooth connection, you would control any mouse or keyboard, and experience
reality
CLINICAL TRIALS

• Elon Musk has said the project allowed a monkey to control a

computer device with its mind.

• The neuralink is also planted in a rats brain. And it is said to

have given a good response.

• Neuralink also unveiled a pig named Gertrude that has had a

coin-sized computer chip in its brain for two months.
PROS
• Alzheimer’s

• Dementia.

• Spinal cord injuries.

CONS

• There are no cons as of now but, an electronic device inside a human skull is not been

accepted by a large amount of communities across some countries.

APPLICATIONS

• It’s first application would be computer control for people with quadriplegia.

• It’s also aimed at patients suffering from Paralysis.

• There are many other potential future applications for the Link.

• These include restoring motor and sensory function and the treatment of neurological disorders.
CONCLUSION

• It gives the physical independence and improves their communication with the
environment.

• It helps them to easily interact with people and the electronic devices. It’s also expected
that it will help in solving some neurological problems.

• Therefore, Neuralink, a new phase of technology, advances the human ability and becomes
a boon to the disabled people suffering from diseases like paralysis.
