What do we consider “the arts”? - Performing arts - Visual art - Film - Literature - Gardening - Culinary arts Freedom of expression - It can help people communicate a message or express their emotions - It can be something shared, and interpreted by others in a way that is personal to them - Reaches across language barriers because we are all human and it can make us all feel. - Creates a community of like minded people How does this link to the play? From my own interpretation, the key message of the play is that we all struggle with our own problems. No matter the severity of the situation we can sympathise with all characters. And that is what stuck out to me, because all though we all will have our own problems, and our own challenges to face, and like i had previously mentioned we all find different way to express ourselves, and make art and have it come from a place of personal experience and that’s what gives it meaning. How can this be useful in the rehearsal space? As we know this is a piece of gig theatre, so the play contains songs and music and a band. And the songs highlight really well the message and the journey the piece is going on. And the characters are the ones performing these songs, which gives it a deeper level of meaning when we are performing the song in the sense that these characters are trying to express or communicate their feelings through song. Which gives it more of a purpose.
