HOW TO DETERMINE WHETER A CHEMICAL
REACTION HAS TAKEN PLACE -
Change is state
Change in colour
Change in temperature
Evolution of gas
Formation of
precipitate
CHEMICAL EQUATIONS ?????
Mg + O 2 → MgO
BALANCING CHEMICAL EQUATIONS
Zn + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2
Zn + H2SO4 → ZnSO4 + H2
Let us try to balance the following chemical
equation –
Fe + H2O→ Fe3O4 + H2

REACTIONS
Chemical reactions involve the breaking
and making of bonds between atoms to
produce new substances.
Combination Reaction
In this reaction you can observe that a single reactant breaks down
to give simpler products. This is a decomposition reaction.
2FeSO4(s) → ⎯⎯⎯ Heat Fe2O3(s) + SO2(g) + SO3(g)
1.ZnO + C → + Zn CO

Corrosion
Corrosion:-
Painting the metal surfaces.
Powder coating the surfaces.
Oiling the metal surfaces.
Galvanization – It is the process of applying a protective zinc
coating to iron or steel articles, to prevent them from
rusting.
Prevention from corrosion & rancidity
Rancidity:-
Adding antioxidants (substances which prevent oxidation) to
food.
Storing food in airtight containers to slow the process of
rancidification.
Refrigerating food also helps to slow down rancidification.
Replacing oxygen in the containers with another gas.
