Assignment 3
Lofting

STEP 1 - Your Folder on the
Schools Server Make a Folder
for Lesson 3 Lofting
Step 2 Select Create a New Part
Step 3 Name & Save the Part
Step 4 Save it in the folder you just
made, Name it Lesson 3 Lofting, & then
Click Save
Step 5.1 - Blank Part

• This is what the blank part looks like, until you click on
Start 3D Sketch.
Step 5.2 - 1 Sketch st

• Then the 3 starting planes appear. It prompts


you to select a plane to start the sketch.
Step 5.3 - 1 Sketch st

• Inventor automatically goes into 2D View, & for


some reason lays the 1st sketch over on it’s side.
I flip it TOP VERTICAL…
Step 5.4 - 1 Sketch st

• I spun it around to TOP VERTICAL VIEW.


Step 6.1 – Name Sketch
• Double Click on
the sketch IF you
wish to Name It.
• On this
assignment
leaving them
named sketch 1,
sketch 2, sketch
3, & etc. just so
happens to work
out fine…
Step 6.2 – Draw a Polygon
• Click on the Shape Tool, it has a bunch of
options, & I’m choosing Polygon Tool.
Step 6.3 – Draw a Polygon
• The draw
Polygon Pop-
Up Box should
appear.
• It has a couple
of options: 1 is
the starting
point & the
other is how
may facets.
Step 6.4 – Draw a Polygon
• Selected 7 facets & started the polygon centered
on the origin point.
Step 6.5 – Draw a Polygon
• Clicked to place it & then clicked Done.
Step 6.6 – Draw a Polygon
• Select Dimension Tool & Measure. • There are
a bunch of
different
ways of
measuring
it.
• I just so
happened
to choose
this one…
Step 6.7 – Finished
• Clicked Finished/Exit to finish the
drawing/sketch.
NOTE:
• Planes are
“like
tables.”
• Sketches
are “like
pieces of
paper on a
table.”
NOTE:
• You can
place
Planes
anywhere &
in any
orientation
in space…
Step 7.1 – Inserting a
New Plane
• Click on Plane
Tool. There are a
bunch!
• I’m selecting
Offset from
Plane.
Step 7.2 – Inserting a New Plane
• Click on Offset Plane & Select the XZ Plane.
Step 7.3 – Inserting a New Plane
• I’m
placing
the
new
plane 2
inches
above
the XZ
Plane.
Step 8.1 – Inserting a New Sketch

• I Right Clicked
& I’m placing a
New Sketch on
the new work
plane that I just
made.
Step 8.2 – Inserting a New Sketch
• I’m placing a 14 sided Polygon on the New
Sketch I just made.
Step 8.3 – Inserting a New Sketch

• I have the 14 sided polygon offset from the 7 sided


polygon. Then clicking Done.
Step 8.4 – Inserting a New Sketch
• I have the 14
sided polygon
offset from the 7
sided polygon.
• I’m dimensioning it
1.5 inches.
• Then I’m clicking
Finished to
complete the
sketch.
Step 9.1 – Inserting a New Plane
• Click on
Offset
Plane &
Select
the last
Plane.
• I’m
Placing it
at 2
Inches.
Step 9.2 – Inserting a New Sketch
• Right
Clicked on
the New
Plane we
just made &
Select New
Sketch.
Step 9.3 – Inserting a Circle

• Viewed 2D
• Picked Center
Point Circle
• Draw a Center
Point Circle on
the Origin, I
made it 2.25
inches diameter.
• Clicked Finished
