Gladiator is one obut how accurate is the film to
the Gladiatorf director Ridley Scott's best movies,
Marcus Aurelius was one of the greatest Emperors of Rome, the last of the 'Five
Good Emperors' of the Antonine Dynasty, and historically renowned as a
platonic philosopher-king for his works in Stoic philosophy. Although it makes
for a compelling drama to have him smothered by his son Commodus the
murder scene in Gladiator didn't actually happen. The real Marcus Aurelius
died of natural causes. As for Commodus, his fate was far less extravagant than
the one seen in the film. He was actually assassinated by his sparring partner, a
wrestler by the name of Narcissus, who had been bribed in a plot to replace the
mad Emperor.
Tiberius Claudius Pompeianus was a politician and military commander
during the 2nd century in the Roman Empire. A general under Emperor
Marcus Aurelius, Pompeianus distinguished himself during Rome's wars
against the Parthians and the Marcomanni. He was a member of the imperial
family due to his marriage to Lucilla, a daughter of Marcus Aurelius, and was
a key figure during the emperor's reign. Pompeianus was offered the imperial
throne three times, though he refused to claim the title for himself.
He was a real character of Maximus Meridius ,, Gladiator”, and he did not
died after fight with Commodus, just Lucila hos real wife was killed.
Commodus' assassination in 192, by a wrestler in the bath who held

him underwater, marked the end of the Nerva–Antonine dynasty He .

was succeeded by Pertinax, the first claimant in the tumultuous Year of

the Five Emperors .

Marcus Aurelius died in 180 AD, and his 18-year-old son Commodus,
Pompeianus' brother-in-law, was proclaimed Roman emperor. Pompeianus
tried to persuade Commodus to remain on the Danubian frontier to
complete the conquest of the Marcomanni, but Commodus returned to
Rome in the autumn of 180.[8][9]

The relationship between the young emperor and the experienced officer
quickly deteriorated. In 182, Lucilla, Pompeianus' wife and Commodus'
sister, organized a failed assassination attempt against the emperor. Though
Commodus executed Lucilla and other members of her family, Pompeianus
had not participated in the conspiracy and was spared. Following the
conspiracy, Pompeianus withdrew from public life, citing old age, and
retired to his estates in Italy. He spent most of his time in the country away
from Rome, claiming age and an ailment of the eyes as an excuse.
