Speaking Part 1 takes 4-5 minutes

 In the introduction, the examiner introduces
himself / herself to you. The examiner asks you
to confirm your identity.
 Then the interview starts. The examiner asks
you questions on general topics, e.g. family,
hobbies, studying.
 Part 1 tests your ability to give full answers and
to give extra information on general topics with
descriptions or explanations.
IELTS Practice – Part 1

1. What's your favorite way to travel?

→ Well, for long journeys, I like to take the train. It's

fast and you can just relax – I normally read a book. The
bus is cheaper, but it's not as comfortable and it's slower.
For short journeys, I usually just walk.
IELTS Practice – Part 1

2. What kind of transport did you use today?

→ Today? I went to the mall in my friend's car this morning.

She picked me up from my house and we went shopping
together. Then after lunch I took the train to come to this test.
My carriage was almost empty, so it was a nice, quiet journey.
IELTS Practice – Part 1

3. Do you think your city or town has a good

transport system?

→ Yes, it's pretty good. There are always lots of buses and
trains, so you don't have to wait very long. They stop quite
early, though. If you're out after 8.30, you need a car, or to
take a taxi.
IELTS Practice – Part 1

4. How would you improve the transport system?

→ Well, it would be nice to have some late buses and trains.

Like I said, it's difficult to get home if you're out after 8.30.
Also, restaurants should have places where you can lock your
bike. My friend cycled to a coffee shop the other day, and
when he left, his bike wasn't there.
IELTS Practice – Part 1

5. What do you like about your hometown?

→ Honestly, I do take a lot of pride in being a citizen here.

What I mean here is that I have all the basic amenities such as,
hospitals, parks, recreational centers and better job
opportunities. Besides, people in my hometown are super
friendly and hospitable.
Self-study

trains?
