PART 1

1. Do you like rainy days? Why?

Sample Answer 1:
Yes. Not like most people who love sunny days, I’m the most excited when it rains. I love the
sound of rain, that pitter-patter sound knocking on the window is the most soothing sound.
When I was little, I used to go puddle jumping on a rainy day. Putting on my rain boots and
raincoat, jumping in the puddle, listening to the splash sound. It was the best.

Sample Answer 2:
Well, it really depends. I mean it’s really annoying if it rains cats and dogs because I may wet
myself when I go out. But if it’s drizzling then I feel comfortable for the reason that I live in a
subtropical area, where weather is scorching as well as muggy in summer. So, a bit of rain can
bring down the temperature and also make me calm down.

Answer 3:
Not at all, who doesn’t like sunny days? To me, rain can negatively affect my mood and
emotions, and I always feel sad and gloomy on those days. Also, I really hate traffic delays,
which are just so common on rainy days. Rain makes roads slippery and often causes traffic
congestion due to accidents.

2. Does it rain much in your city?

Sample Answer 1:
The place where I live is super wet all year round. It rains all the time. That’s why it’s a very
green place. The weather is pretty unpredictable, it could be sunny for one second, and then a
heavy downpour for another. I always carry an umbrella with me wherever I go.

Sample Answer 2:
According to my observation, in summer there is torrential rain every now and then. But
compared to equatorial areas such as tropical rainforests, the precipitation in my city is much
lower and the duration of the rainy season will not last for so long.

3. Would you like to live in a dry or wet place?

Sample Answer 1:
I would say I prefer to live in a place that is wet. As wet weather makes everything look so
green and energetic. And plus, the humidity in the air is really good for my skin.

Sample Answer 2:
Personally, I prefer to live in wet areas for the reason that if I leave my skin bare for a period of
time in dry areas, it will start to dehydrate as the dry air sucks moisture out of the skin, which
makes me feel uncomfortable. Even worse, I may get a nosebleed on account of the dry
weather.
4. Would you change your plan if it rained?
It depends. I usually stick with my goals and plans because I’m a really organized person and if
a plan goes wrong, it could affect the progress of everything else. So, I would take preventative
measures such as rescheduling meetings to online meetings instead of in-person ones, or
planning extra travel time to ensure I arrive on time.

PART 2

Describe a place you have been to where there were lots of people
You should say:
Where it is
Who you were with
What people were doing there
And explain why there were lots of people

Oh, let me tell you about the time I went to the bustling Disneyland in Shanghai during the last
National Holiday! It was an absolute madhouse, packed to the brim with people from all walks
of life. I was lucky enough to visit this enchanting place with my family.

As soon as we entered the park, we were greeted by a sea of people, all eagerly queuing up for
rides, snapping photos, and wandering around with wide-eyed excitement. We also saw
children running around, clutching their Mickey Mouse balloons with pure delight. The air was
filled with the happy chatter of visitors and the catchy Disney songs.

Well, I think the reason why it becomes a popular holiday destination is that Disneyland is
famous for its amazing scenes, thrilling rides, and memorable experiences. Its iconic firework
show in front of the castle is so romantic.

What’s more, all these Disney cartoon characters become alive in this magical place. You can
shake hands with Marvel heroes such as Spiderman and Captain America, hug Weenie Bear, and
dance with Snow White. I guess that’s why it becomes an irresistible magnet for visitors from
all over the world. When I visited there, it may have been crowded, but the crowds only added to
the festive atmosphere.

2. Are people happy living in crowded apartments?

3. Which scenic spots will have queues of people?

4. What are the advantages of living on a high floor?

5. What are the disadvantages of living on a lower floor?

6. What do you think of the phenomenon of people queuing in restaurants for more than an
hour?

Sample Answer 1:

Queuing in restaurants for over an hour is quite common in China, especially during busy
weekend hours. People are naturally intrigued by a restaurant that has a long queue, assuming
that the food must be exceptional for so many people to patiently wait their turn. Once they
invest time in waiting, the sunk cost effect or fear of missing out (FOMO) kicks in,
compelling them to continue queuing until they secure a spot. As a result, many restaurants
deliberately hire individuals to stand in line in front of their restaurants, aiming to attract more
customers.

1) Do you usually carry a bag?
Answer 1: Yes, I always carry a bag with me wherever I go. It has become a habit for
me to keep my essential belongings organized and easily accessible. Whether it’s
a backpack, a tote bag, or a messenger bag, having a bag by my side gives me a
sense of preparedness and convenience.

Answer 2: I don’t usually carry a bag unless it is necessary. I prefer to travel

lightly and only carry essential items in my pockets. However, on occasions where I
need to bring more items or have specific needs, such as a laptop or a camera, I
would opt for a suitable bag that fulfills those
requirements.

Answer 3: Carrying a bag is an integral part of my daily routine. I find it practical

and functional to have a bag to carry my belongings, such as my wallet, phone, keys,
and other personal items. It allows me to keep everything in one place, ensuring I
have everything I need within reach.

Answer 4:

2) Do you change your bags often?

3) What kinds of bags would you use when traveling?

Answer 1: When I travel, I prefer to use a spacious backpack that can accommodate
all my essentials, including clothes, toiletries, and other travel necessities. The
backpack’s ergonomic design and multiple compartments make it convenient for me
to stay organized during my journey.

Answer 2: For traveling, I usually opt for a versatile and lightweight tote bag. It
provides ample space to carry my belongings and is easy to carry around.
The simplicity and functionality of a tote bag make it a practical choice for my
travel needs.

Answer 3: When I travel, I like to use a wheeled suitcase. It offers ease of mobility,
especially in airports and train stations, where I need to
navigate through crowds and long distances. The spacious interior and
sturdy construction of a wheeled suitcase makes it a reliable choice for my travel
adventures.

Answer 4:

4) Is a bag an ideal gift?

Answer 1: Yes, a bag can be an ideal gift for various occasions. It is not only a
practical and functional item but also a fashion accessory. Depending on
the recipient’s style and needs, a well-chosen bag can complement their personality
and serve as a thoughtful gift.

Answer 2: While a bag can be a thoughtful gift, its suitability as an ideal gift depends
on the recipient’s preferences and lifestyle. Some individuals may appreciate a bag
as a practical and useful gift, while others may have specific tastes or already
own sufficient bags. It is important to consider the recipient’s needs and
preferences when choosing a bag as a gift.

Answer 3: A bag can make an excellent gift choice for many reasons. It is a versatile
item that can be used in various situations, whether for work, travel, or daily
activities. Besides, there are numerous styles, designs, and price ranges available,
allowing you to find the perfect bag that matches the recipient’s taste and fits within
your budget.

Answer 4:
5) Did you use a backpack when you were a child?

Answer 1: Yes. I used a backpack when I was a child. It was my go-to bag for school
as it provided ample space to carry my textbooks, notebooks, and stationery. The
backpack had adjustable straps, which made it comfortable to wear, and multiple
compartments, allowing me to stay organized throughout the day.

Answer 2: No, I didn’t use a backpack when I was a child. Instead, I preferred
using a messenger bag or a shoulder bag to carry my school supplies. These bags had
a more stylish and trendy appeal, and I found them more convenient for accessing
my belongings quickly.

Answer 3: When I was a child, I primarily used a backpack for school. It was a
practical choice as it evenly distributed the weight of my books and prevented strain
on my shoulders. The backpack had a spacious main compartment, where I could
fit all my textbooks and notebooks, and additional pockets for storing smaller items
like pens and calculators.

1) What kinds of shops are popular in your city?

Sample Answer 1:

Sample Answer 2:
In my city, there are many popular types of shops. Convenience stores and supermarkets
are very common, as are clothing stores and beauty shops. In recent years, cafes and

Sample Answer 2:
Young people enjoy going to boutiques for a variety of reasons. Firstly, boutiques often
have unique and trendy clothing items that cannot be found in larger chain stores. This
appeals to young people who want to express their individual style and stand out from the

staff members who can offer advice and recommendations, which makes the whole

3) Do you think location is the key factor that attracts

Sample Answer 2:
While location is certainly an important factor in attracting customers, it is not always the
key factor. Other factors such as the quality of goods or services offered, customer
service, pricing, and advertising can also play a crucial role in attracting and retaining
customers. In some cases, businesses that are located in less desirable areas may still
thrive and attract customers due to their unique offerings or exceptional customer service.
