Introduction: How to use this template

Purpose:
• This template helps an organization create a value proposition for its EA program.
• After completing this template, you will have a document articulating the value that the EA program can
provide to your stakeholders.

Instructions:
1. Review the five-step process for creating the EA value proposition.
2. Read the slide “Articulate the value of the EA program by using the EA Value Proposition Template.”
3. Document the organization’s EA value proposition in the slide “Record the organization’s value
proposition.”
Review the five-step process for creating the EA value
proposition
This template will provide a table to record the information uncovered in each of these five steps for the EA
practice. The set of slides will provide an overview of each of the five steps listed below.

Five steps towards the successful articulation of the EA value proposition:

Identify and prioritize stakeholders. The EA program must know to whom to communicate the value
1 proposition.

Construct business and technology drivers. Drivers are derived from the needs of the business and IT.
2 Needs come from the stakeholders, strategic documents, and external factors.

Discover pains that prevent driver realization. There are always challenges that obstruct drivers of the
3 organization. Find out what they are to get closer to showing the value of EA.

Brainstorm EA contributions. Pains that obstruct drivers have now been identified. To demonstrate EA’s
4 value, think about how EA can help to alleviate those pains. Create statements that show how EA’s
contribution will be able to overcome the pain to show the value of EA.

Derive promises of value. Complete the articulation of value for the EA value proposition by stating how
5 realizing the business or technology will provide in terms of value for the organization. Speak with the
stakeholders to discover the values that can be achieved.
